Is it reasonable to think they’re still struggling in terms of man power in manufacturing…. I’ve feel as though I e ran across a lot of new hiring posts on Facebook re: production in the last couple weeks. It’s been all production and a few delivery/field techs.
Those parts of the business will need to grow substantially to offer any sort of reasonable service to owners so I don't think postings are idicitve of hiring challenges. When RJ was talking to Sandy I got the sense he was more or less telling the truth with the root cause of the current delays. I'm not expecting 100% transparency but the type of supply constraints the industry is seeing is decimating manufacturing.

Don’t mean to side-topic the thread, but since you’re a collision shop owner, what would you do if someone brought you an R1T today that was in an accident? Any clue how long that repair might take?

Just depends on the damage and parts availability.
I JUST received an email that we weren't chosen as a certified shop to repair the R1T. No reason given. Although they said we are equipped for the delivery vans, I couldn't go forward with that because they require a very large paint booth. Not enough vans out there to make sense of that.

Wonder if they are just finalizing the Collison repair shop training. That was an issue on my mind. Didn't feel like they can make any meaningful deliveries without having that ready.

A major issue is the lack of follow through on self imposed deadlines and commitments. I completely understand a guide not getting in touch with the 50K+ preorders that were in place Q42021, that's a lot of work do to for a startup...but why set that as the expectation? Why not just start with an email blast and work up to the individual guide contacts? Or just have the Launch Editions get guide contacts, that's a much smaller amount of people. Seeing all manufacturing struggle does make me feel a bit bad for the situation Rivian is in as a start up, but then they make decisions that increase difficulty. Turn up the difficulty once you've beaten the game not when you've barely started.

Initial Thanksgiving promise WAS only for LE orders, and they botched that.

yea just seems weird to me to watch a company that doesn’t seem to be producing anything in an appreciable way due to supply constraints increasing their labor force (so they can stand idle) and accelerate the company’s cash burn rate.

Correct, I miss spoke. They could've started with the email blast they ended up sending in December and built some goodwill instead of setting the expectation of individual guide contacts.

They can use lower production to train, and there are some batching "tricks" I could see them doing to work through higher production rates.

I'm taking RJ at his word with in the Munro email that the plant isn't the issue, it's the supply constraints associated with random bits.

Based on some discussions I've had with folks "familiar" with the matter, the current hire-to-delivery wait is approximately 3 months for new employees. So that's fun.

Should apply to Rivian for a "remote" position of internet forum monitor. I'd accept minimum wage.

Get my R1T by May and get paid to do what I'm already doing (while not doing what I get paid to do) ;)

Well, my job title is Communications Director, so I suspect I won't have much luck applying.

Really depends on if they are willing to hire someone who is overqualified.

Delivery tracker idea:
1. Search linkedIn for all Rivian hires
2. Track that against truck deliveries
3. Estimate when significant quantities of third party deliveries will occur based on the anticipated date of the recent hires receiving trucks.

We've made it to October, so they apparently need to clear through the October, November, December, January, and now February hires. In about 11 days we'll also have to account for the March hires.

Yes, this is a little tongue in cheek. But it's starting to feel that way.
