R2 will be my first EV, so what L2 charger should I get?

My Grizzl-E 40amp EVSE is exactly what I wanted - no fancy features (as anything that I would need to customize the charging process is part of the truck), and it's solid as a rock.

Really because the universal is simply just adding a built in adapter. I never understood the real value of the universal charger. I paid 399 for my Emporia charger with a J1772 and can charge the R1S or the Tesla with the J1772 to J3400 that came with the Tesla.

Maybe someone can explain what I’m missing here.
Because Telsa is a better known name, especially for those who have owned Teslas and haven’t or don’t want to spend time researching their own questions. Other than that, not much to explain. The UWC isn’t the only answer. Just one of many. Like religion, some push their own choices on others to validate it.

Again, with all impartiality, the actual charger is built into every EV on the market. The wall “charger” is just a on/off switch for the power source. Some switches are simple, some have additional features. Which to buy boils down to each person’s criteria for features, price, and brand preference. Like shopping for anything, OP and anyone in similar situation should define for themselves what their criteria is. Then compare/contrast options that meet said criteria.

I like my Rivian charge connector at home. And I use the Tesla at work.

The Tesla does hesitate before charging is initiated but always works without issue. For multiple vehicle charging the Tesla can be networked to share limited power. This is a big advantage if needed.

Rivian Wall Charger is $800, Tesla's is cheaper, but some suggest EviQo. What do you guys suggest?
Lots of options...you don't need the charger to wifi; your Rivian does that for scheduling charging and getting lower rates if that is available to you. If I needed a new charger (my ClipperCreek from 2019 is doing just fine), I'd probably have to get one with WiFi, just another possible point of failure.

Emporia chargers can load share. If you get their Vue device you can also monitor loads in your panel. Their charger can talk to their Vue and load shed when the loads in the house exceed the panel's rating. Their support is excellent, I've had them go beyond warranty to replace hardware. My house has battery backup so I use the Vue to interface with Home Assistant to automatically cut off circuits when the power fails and to notify me of how much power we are using. I've built the system out over several years, im glad I invested in a charger that could grow with my needs.

Why spend money on a charger? I have used the OEM cord on my Tesla and Rivian plugged into a 240 outlet. In over 10 years I have had no problems.

I am absolutely not going to trust an outlet for long term charging, especially if I'm going to be bringing the portable charger with me on trips frequently. Frequent plugging and unplugging is a great way to wear out the outlet and cause a fire.

It's like $400 for a proper 48 amp hardwire charger that permanently mounts to the wall. Not exactly a huge investment.

As noted, I have had no problems in years of plugging into a dedicated outlet. The only issue I have had was with the GM charger I purchased for my first electric vehicle, a 2011 Chevy Volt. The charger shorted out after a couple of years.

Lots of people have burned down their houses this way. I'm happy you haven't.

I've just installed a NEMA 14-50 and plugged the portable charger (incl with R1, apparently not with R2) in. Any reason that shouldn't work?
Note: It has worked just fine for 3.5 years...

As for using a charger app: I've just used the on-board app for the R1 to start/stop, and set up charging times. Seems pretty easy and not needing anything fancier.

Check with your utility company…..much less expensive and rebates.
