I never used the frunk in Model Y, used it al the time in my R1S. The powered up and down made all the difference.

You can get power frunk installed aftermarket on a Model Y for about $1k, half that if you DIY. It integrates with the screen and app, you can pop it and close it as if it were factory. Maybe something like that will be made for R2

If I used my Frunk more than 2-3 times a year I'd be surprised. Honestly, with my Gen 1 R1S here in Florida and not much heat shielding between the front motors, HVAC fans and the frunk interior, it seems like it's always 120 degrees in there. Too hot for groceries. I only keep my charge adaptors in there.
Additionally, given the length of the R1S and my lack of garage space, I don't have enough room to easily get around the front of the car once parked, so it's a pain to unload anything from the frunk. If I had a significantly longer garage or parked outside I'd probably use it more.

That would be a bummer if R2 frunk is too hot. I thought it would be perfect for small grocery trips as my use case.

You need to think of the frunk as being like the old school trunk on a sedan. I'm in PA and use our frunk for groceries (including ice cream) year-round, but I'm only 7-10 minutes from the store.

I keep a Blue Maestro Bluetooth Temperature Logger in my frunk at all times so, but simply going to the app on my phone, I know how hot the frunk is (or has been). For $32 it might be worth considering if you are worried about the frunk temps. I originally bought to know if I could, for example, keep cosmetics in the frunk while on a 3-hour trip in the summer (I've been blessed with four daughters).

as others have mentioned - on our MY and M3 frunks (not powered), we don't use it at all - not worth the hassle - it requires multiple tries to close by pressing right at the center etc - discourages almost anyone to "not even try". But on the R1T, the powered frunk is used by all (kids, wife, myself) and if not daily, definitely regularly. This is purely because it is quite spacious and it is powered - just press a button and move on - no need to wait to even validate. E.g. - going to an event where wife doesn't need to carry her purse, frunk is the preferred place.

I do expect 2027 R2 will have the powered built-in for premium versions at least. There has to be some reason for 2026 R2 owners to upgrade :) (wife might approve actually!!).

That doesn't sound that bad then. Other person in Florida made it seem like there was potentially extra heat from other sources like the motors and HVAC. Might have more to do with their southern location than frunk?
