R2 order timeline data point: VIN assigned in "Steps" stage

Question about the invite:

We were also a "first few minutes" reservation holder. I watched the full 2+ hours of the reveal. We immediately put our $100 down. We currently have a R1T, Quad, Large battery we have had for 3 years and love it.

Did the invite come in a text message, email or within the app?

email only for the "invitation to order" notification, I didn't get a text message until the next evening after I did the initial driver's license, address, etc. steps.

Seems odd thst the mostly very predictable stock and highest volume configuration for a day one purchaser is still 20 days out for delivery?

Agreed, seems like a pretty common config but maybe they're doing in batches or something, plus freight shipping time.. so, who knows.

I was debating Catalina or Launch Green, Tire/wheel type (21/AS vs 20/AT) and location (Denver or Colorado Springs, as they're about the same driving time for me) - and how it might effect delivery, but ultimately decided that they probably are all pretty popular so went with my top choice... then I see someone got their Catalina+20/AT in Colorado Springs already and was a little disappointed that it maybe could have been me ..

It’s interesting. I put in my reservation within the first couple minutes or so as well. I’ve owned three Rivians, live close to the Louisville, CO service center but still haven’t gotten an invite. I wonder if the fact that I leased an R1S last year, plays into the equation. Do they think that someone that leased a Rivian last year would be less likely to buy this year? Now, in my situation, this is exactly the case. So it isn’t a big deal at all. I’m just curious.

I was a first minute reservation, own an R1S and am close to the Colorado Springs service center. No invite yet. But my buddy in Denver, months later reservation, no Rivian ownership ever, got an order invite. Definitely seems somewhat random at this point.

I leased an R1S last September. I reserved the R2 on day 1. Received invite today. Ordered today. Anticipating 4 to 8 weeks to delivery. Color: Catalina Cove.

We are still waiting.....my wife and I are ok with it. We are going to trade in the R1T we have owned for 3 years and get the R2S. THe R1T is amazing....quad, large battery pack, but as we are getting older and I am retiring in a few years, the R1T is to big for our needs and miy wife is short and when she and her sister hit costco, they can't put stuff in the truck bed because they are short and can't get it out......itis quite commical actually.

For another reference point: I was a first minute or so reservation. I have owned a Gen 1 R1T Quad traded up for Gen 2 R1T Tri (Cali Dune) and Gen 2 R1S Dual Standard (traded up from a Tesla MYP) and now trading to the R2.

I received my "invite to order" at Tue, Jun 9, 9:35 AM MT (Mountain Time), submitted the order/paid the extra $400 shortly after[Catalina Cove, 21", the free adaptors (in CO) and the cargo bars, requested delivery to a Colorado Rivian office near me].

I received my "steps" starting Wed, Jun 10, 6:11 PM MT and the VIN was assigned at that point, it's VIN 1134 - it said it was being built (or something like that).

I received an estimated delivery date of 6/30 on Thu, Jun 11, 10:51 AM MT (it said based on estimated delivery to the location) and the automated texts from the local delivery team on the evening of Jun 11.

Not that it mattered for the above, but I did get a 10am MT test drive on 6/9 as well (heard the rumored time they were opening test drive appointments, so woke up and there were a bunch available) - received the invite to order while I was driving down to the test drive, so that was exciting to see when I parked and looked at my phone

Do we get free "adapters" in colorado? I'm about to place my order, and I seem to recall something around that, but not sure how it works. Thanks!

Yes! There are a number of states (including CO) that give you the adapters for free (their listed in the fine print in a few areas).. but you have to add then yourself, then they zero out the charges later - I checked and confirmed mine are zero'd out in the portal now that the order was placed (though it wasn't clear when I submitted).
