I understand those who aren't going to change their config until the pricing updates in the hopes they get grandpersoned in, but I definitely don't understand anyone cancelling impulsively unless you really need that $1,000
You are correct. $1000 does not make any difference. For me it is not about getting pissed and trying to communicate that to Rivian. It is a business that is about numbers like most and wouldn't care the least how I feel about this. It is just when you know the new price is just too much for you, what is the point of waiting. It just gives Rivian wrong information about the number of reservations they have as well. The thing is even if I do down with specs to keep the price low and wait until 2024, I know now for sure there is no guarantee I will get what I see on my screen. I think the idea of long wait for any car is not a good one. When Rivian is caught up with their reservation, you can get one the same day or at most in a month for the price you see is the time to get it. The bugs are worked out and process and specs are hammered out. What happened here comes with the territory. It just happened to be a territory I am not well suited to play in. Overall I am glad this update happend now otherwise 2022 would have been an unnecessay wait. All that said, you are right. Impulse decisions are not usually good. I will sleep on it a bit longer.

Honestly, back in 2018, this struck me as a $100K truck easy, so I didn't put in the deposit since I was not in a financial position to even think about it, regardless of the sticker price. Fast forward to 2021, and I was in a better place, so I made a reservation because this is the ideal truck for me, and I would make the finances work to afford it.

The big 3 truck EVs are simply too large of a vehicle for me or my family and I don't really care if the base prices are lower than the top trim R1T, I don't want them. The Tacoma and Ridgeline are a better size but don't have enough tech and are ICE, so I don't want them. I would never take the Model X into the mountains/snow and the CB is laughable, so those are out as well.

So here we are... I'm not happy about the price increases, but after already dropping the Max pack based on a number of reasons, price included, I had a bit more wiggle room to customize. I'll still have to rework some personal finances to afford it, but I believe in the company's mission and can't wait for my delivery. Given the roll call of intentions to cancel, I genuinely do appreciate it if I get my truck faster, even if it tastes like bitter tears ?‍♂

I know it’s only a matter of time for me…they have lost their damn minds…and to do it 10 days before a earnings report? I’m sorry but for a new entrant without established customers and other revenue sources (like servicing already sold vehicles), this is company suicide.

Risk the biscuit to get more of your vehicles on the road and establish yourselves before thinking you can price like you’re Porsche without major blowback.
I have a limit order to buy Rivian stock at $55. I'll probably cancel that order and wait to see if the stock price sinks further than that. Might b a good opportunity to buy lower....

I chatted with CS and he mentioned that he was a Guide...seems they're all hands on deck right now!

Oof...I have an R1S configured that I preordered about a year ago. I'd probably drop the off-road package with the hooks now included in the Adventure, but would still want the OC interior, which is now a $2K upgrade. So effective $15K price increase for me. Will need to discuss this one with the boss (wife)...
I've gotta say that if the response here is any indication of what demand will end up being at this price point, it doesn't look good for Rivian as a company.
I dont see this having any negative impact on Rivians viability at all TBH.

The average price of a new car went up 32% since 2018.

This is Rivian's first price increase since 2018 and it's 20%. But y'all are too wrapped up in your Internet-fueled emotions and entitlement to have any notion of rationality left.
I believe you are referring to average sale price of cars in the US. This is due to people buying more suvs/trucks and no more dealer discounts. This is NOT the same as what Rivian did.

I’m not surprised by a pricing increase due to various external factors, however 15-20% seems out of the norm (other than on used vehicles)
I am disappointed with the delays - these have led to the increases, however necessary.

Toyota is supposedly coming out with an electric Tacoma. Early pics make it look badass too. That may be a good option for you in the future.

100% This is a cataclysmic decision for them, and they knew what the impact would be. There is no possible way they are going to backtrack on this. The impact is too high. The cost to fix it would be too much.
If they had to make this decision, then they must really be in financial dire straits or company ethics just got thrown out the window. Either way, idiotic move!!! Really insultingly dumb gesture to early supporters.

The price increase is not negligible. Close to a $20K bump for a R1T w/ quad motor and powered tonneau cover. might be time to cancel the pre-order. Whoa...I was expecting a bump but not close to 20%.
Companies blame everything but themselves. First it’s Covid (blame the Chinese). Then it’s supply chain (due to Covid). Then it’s inflation (blame our federal government). Hey RJ! Blame the Russian war on Ukraine because that’s the next flavor of excuses. How about “WE at Rivian Screwed up but we do not care because RJ is a billionaire”. The real truth. I’m putting $250 of my $1,000 on Fisker Ocean.

Well, I still don't want a Model X, which is still more expensive. And if I spec out a Defender 110, a gas vehicle, I end up around the same price.
I went through this exact process - Defender would be my next choice, and I would be spending as much and it'd be ICE. So, who knows where I'll end up.
