I'm going to hold on for now but have a feeling I am eventually going to cancel my pre-order. I still believe in the product but the company not so much anymore (to put it mildly). Screenshots are less than two hours apart.

It’s frustrating but expected. This was targeted as a 100k vehicle. Unfortunately when Elon announced the 40k CT Rivian slashed their price, but started decontenting. At 75-80k this was one of the best deals on the planet for what you get. At 95, it’s still solid for the price.

That being said, the method of doing this is poor. It did say everywhere that there’s no guarantee of price. I expected a 3-7k increase, once the tax credit was preserved for the year. While it’s frustrating, if 75 -> 85 causes too much financial strain, you couldn’t afford it anyways. Everything is up insanely now. Both guys printed trillions. Inflation is rampant and the market is about to correct.

mostly from this, I’m sad for Rivian. If they could’ve gotten in pre pandemic, thered be 2 years of market share. But they missed that and this could be the final nail. Stock will tumble (I’m sad, have 400 shares) and the sqwaking Will be loud. The sad part is they have a GREAT,WORLD BEATING PRODUCT. This isn’t vaporware. They were so close.

I’m still in for now.

Trying to keep some sense of humor, but going through the seven stages of grief, I am now thoroughly pissed off.

When faced with any other auto maker “market adjustment”, $10K price addition above MSRP, or other such bullshit - in 100% of those cases I will not visit that car dealer again.

I get inflationary price pressure, but as many have succinctly stated here, this is no way to treat your reservation holders.

Rivian will be taking a lot of heat over this executive decision. I’m not cancelling my order quite yet. There is a slim chance that they may honor the pre-sale pricing but I’m not holding my breath.

My lightly optioned Explore went from $72,500 to $88,450. That puts me at roughly $96k “out the door” in my neck of the woods. Thats crazy high for a non full size pickup truck.

So in a couple of years Rivian will be known as "that company that briefly produced pickups back in 2022 but now just produce delivery vans for Amazon".

I think you are onto something. I have always thought the van part of the website really is where the big value is of current products. Producing 3 vehicles as a new company is hard and Bezos wants his vans. I think this company ends up doing EV vans only, RJ is out, and Rivian is a subsidiary of Amazon at a lower price than it would have been had Amazon tried to buy it all pre-IPO.

I am not suggesting Amazon mysteriously orchestrated this. Rather, RJ and his management f’ed this up big time and RJ will start a new company and try again in 5-10 years.

This topic sure lit a fire under forum members. While this news is unwelcome, we have yet to see what the final outcome will be for the LE pre-orders. It's important to remember the tonneau, selection of 20" wheels, OC interior, big battery and quad motor were included in the LE. I'm going to wait for the official e-mail from Rivian before making any decisions. The price increase represents 15%, a hard pill to swallow on a vehicle with so many unknowns and no record.

I have only gotten up through the first ten pages and started to draft a letter to CS. It reads;

To Whom it May Concern,

Being on the Rivian Forum while having a launch edition R1T now for a couple years, I can understand the people who feel betrayed. If you wanted to become just like any other auto manufacturer, you could not have picked a better way to show your distain for people who actually bought into your "culture". Business needs to make a profit, no doubt. Price increases, rolled in over time, are necessary, but of this magnitude seems unwise for a company seeking a loyal following. The massive increase on the backs of those WHO ACTUALLY ARE YOUR LOYAL FOLLOWERS is unwarranted.

Today, I put a check in the mail to purchase more of your stock to add to my position. This decision I will re-evaluate in coming days. Another consideration will be if, indeed, the Rivian will be the vehicle I drive in the future, or one of the countless ICE trucks currently on the market. I have read many people's feelings of dismay and now distrust. It seems a phase in of the increases and an attempt to support the people who have supported you in some way, like absorption of some or all of those increases, would have been in order. I am aware the configurator said estimated price, but it does smack of bait and switch just a tad.

I do want to thank you for presenting, at least the illusion of, keeping the world adventurous forever. Please consider your actions and the effect you will be having on a large portion of your base followers.

I’m still in shock after logging in to my account and seeing the new price on my RS1 reservation.

Im out and cancelling - and glad I sold my stock back when it was closer to its high.

This is going to cause a bloodbath and show up in quarterly results. It’s a-shame. They are ticking off their Early supporters and trusting they can replace us with new blood willing to pay the new prices.

With that said, I hope they still succeed and don’t wish Rivian harm. Sad I won’t be part of this journey though.

I'd feel much better about this if content that was stripped from the truck was acutally added back in. The electrochromatic roof and the 180 degree tailgate aren't worth $12,000, but it would have at least softened the blow.

My configuration was pretty basic. I put down a deposit on 11/26/18 (EARLY!) and once I could configure, I went for the LE, added the Forest Edge interior and the camp kitchen and tent, along with a few accessories. When I realized that the State of WA was following the proposed Federal pricing guidelines for incentives (capping at $80K), I trimmed things back to squeak under the $80K cap. The price on my truck now without any changes is $92K. Pretty sure that I don't want it that badly - especially after waiting 3-plus years! We'll see how they respond...

Bob - it's already official. You should see the new pricing in your account already. My LE order wen't up by $12,000.

This hurts and frankly, "inflation" is not the cause. Just like the lawsuit alleged, the executive team botched the original pricing and instead of taking the heat last year pre-ipo, chose to wait till now to push this out.

BMW iX50 is now in the price ballpark that our R1S LE is now playing in. I don't want to pay this much for either but between the two, I am starting to warm up to the bimmer

It’s no coincidence that this massive price increase happened after all Rivian employees and key suppliers took delivery of their trucks.

Good news everyone!

I equipped my R1T with a single motor, no wheels, or doors for that matter, and the "mini" battery option with factory aluminium paint finish.

The price of my R1T is now exactly the same .
