Locked in my $600 Lighting deposit when I signed the dealer order, but I'll look at reselling that one now.

This was a great surprise this morning.
thank you to everybody who contacted them (myself included) cancelled or threatened to cancel.
This now seems fair and got my trust back (to an extent).

THIS is exactly right. it was the storm of a customer backlash that made this happen.

A 12% drop in stock price also helps!

For anyone who thought RJ was a fraud because of the decision that was made 2 days ago, don't turn around and say he's a saint now. This was also a business decision.

I can guarantee the last 36 hours have been an insane level of activity in the C-Suite running analysis on how cancellations would affect revenue. In the end, it's obvious that the numbers showed that the additional revenue from remaining preorders was insignificant enough that they decided they could absorb it.

RJ is not a savior any more than was a fraud. It's just business.

I'm not sure that this was JUST business. RJ is a human, too. I suspect he cares A LOT about what people think about his company that he has built from the ground up. I doubt the backlash was easy for him from that standpoint.

But you're also right - if there was not a reasonable business reason to reverse this, it wouldn't have been reversed.

Can I keep dual and get a $6k discount from my March 1 price? Probably not, but I would consider making that deal

No argument there, without that cancel spree Im sure I would have been as well. As a self absorbed individual I like not having to do more work.

Gotta be honest; I’m still going through with my ice f150 purchase.

This is the only reasonable way for Rivian to try to recover from this, but that they are obviously able to make it right calls into question their original plan THAT MUCH MORE.

And to clarify, every time they make these unforced errors of judgement, they are messing with 10’s of thousands peoples lives, household finances, and emotions.

It’s not ok, and “making it right,” doesn’t make us whole.

Yeah Rivian messed up. If they had raised prices 5% or so, explaining that they would eat some of the cost due to inflation / supply chain, I think most people would have shrugged it off as most reasonable people expected a price increase. I see this as a win / win though, for sure.
