How is forcing lead-in advertising with every turn on and station change resolving the issue? An actual FM radio with HD has no such ads, higher quality, and no drop outs due to poor cell coverage.

Not sure what was going on, but I tuned in my local NPR station in TuneIn, waded through the 30 seconds or so of commercials, and then got a stream that was not the same as what was playing on an actual FM radio tuned to the same station. It was the station with the same local hosts, but the stream was off at least 15 minutes, and might have been much more (I gave up trying to figure out what was going on). We are in the middle of a major monsoon season now with frequent thunderstorms and flash floods, and I really don't want emergency broadcast notices coming in long after they have already expired.

iHeart and TuneIn only resolves the problem of wanting to keep on a station when traveling out of range of that station. It's great for that.
Get a GMRS radio with NOAA Weather Scan and Alert. No delay on notifications. There are also “stand alone” weather scan radios.

Getting the feed isn’t really the problem, integrating it nicely with the head unit is the challenge..

really wish they could have just put an AUX plug in one of the gloveboxes.. at that point we wouldn’t be having this conversaion.

I wonder if there is a McGuyver way to splice into the audio Out to the amp and speaker feeds.

Or maybe a cellphone that can audio stream, but that can take an AUX headphone plug INTO the phone as the source..

there’s got to be a solve here.

I am certain there are quite a few amateur radio operators who want R2s, and would love to easily integrate their mobile rigs as well.

Looks like we need a bit of collaboration here...

Seems like something like this would work:

That would let you play FM as well as music stored on a memory card.

There's also a million devices like this that should let you plug in anything with a 3.5mm output:
Edit: These probably aren't going to work with a Rivian, although I wonder if it's something Rivian could support with a software update.

I'm not so sure about this working. This conversation specifically came up years ago related to the Sirius XM FM transmitter devices. There are other threads here where people have tried various Bluetooth transmitting devices. I could be mistaken, but as I recall, nothing will pair other than a phone.

Not buying a vehicle you otherwise love, because it doesn't have AM/FM radio, in the year 2026, seems bonkers to me...
Too many uncalled for assumptions...

Complaining about a missing desired feature is not avoiding a purchase altogether.

Determining that the importance of a feature for someone else could not be significant enough to avoid them purchasing an R2 is being bonkers is you being bonkers.

I'll pass on similar ridiculous assumptions regarding Hyundai drivers.

To be clear, I am very disappointed the R2 does not have an FM HD radio, but that is not stopping me from buying one. It could end up being the straw that broke the camel's back, but not likely. Some of the other "straws" of lesser importance to me are lack of CarPlay, and lack of grab handles, and lack of bright exterior colors (other than white and silver). None of these are deal killers for me, but they are enthusiasm depressors, yet there is still a lot of enthusiasm here. When I finally get my order window opening (supposedly by Feb), my decisions will be whether to wait for lidar/RAP1, or replace my wife's car first, and she doesn't want an R2.

Also, we never have, and likely never will buy a S. Korean car for various reasons, and likely will never buy another German car after 3 MB & BMW maintenance nightmares and weird (non-driving) performance issues.

I am speaking in general, not you specifically. It's a dynamic I have seen repeatedly.

Seems like you're right. These simpler bluetooth transmitter devices don't support the interactive pairing process that Rivian requires.

You are effectively correct, and I'm also going to be pedantic. It's not just "phone" as you can probably pair other devices that are able to pair to a car profile. The problem is that most of these devices will only pair to headphone/headset devices. It's probably a device side problem. I've seen reports that iPads can pair for example. Bluetooth supports pairing via profiles. These cheap devices only support a headphone/headset profile.

And in general, the dynamic of people commenting that someone else's complaint about a missing feature is trivial or out of touch is also one we've seen repeatedly here, but it's still indefensible.

World needs plenty of Hyundai drivers, I suppose.
You are maybe too young to have lived through the grid shut down 20 years ago. Or you don’t live somewhere where the service can be spotty or nonexistent. Those places still do exist. There’s no need to insult others

False.

LOL, I can't WAIT to hear how an FM radio would help this. Most of the cell networks still worked, some radio stations shut down.

Anyway, I'm rooting for page 32 by tonight.

Not sure where you were, but where I was cell service was nonexistent. And I believe there were FM stations that were transmitting (I’m not sure, I was too busy walking home). Again people come here for discussion, not to be insulted.
