@Zoidz have you worked with those manipulator systems? I’m now daydreaming about mounting one(see my post a couple up thread) ?
This should solve the problem. $179 at Harbor Freight. On second thought, groceries might be a bit heavy for it - it IS a Harbor Freight product, lol.

Hey all, just wanted to start a thread regarding the R1T bed. I totally dig how they handle the hinges in the tail gate BUT much like trying to lean over to pull out the spare tire, I was thinking…

Hey, how the hell are you supposed to get your groceries out of that thing?? I have a full size truck and have a hard enough time with mine but also due to having aRam my tail gate splits 60/40 it we LOVE it!!!

I had seen some patents floating around about a multifunction tailgate for the R1T some day, but right now my question is,

what’s it like trying to pull things out of the bed with how the tail gate extends further when down than a traditional truck bed.
It's not possible. As soon as you use an R1T as a "grocery getter" you lose your membership and your adventure vehicle is repossessed.

I just went to Costco tonight in my R1T and happened across a fellow forum member :) Even at just 5'7" with the truck at standard height I can reach items along the sides. I had one item settle in the middle back and just used the gear tunnel door to hop up and push it out. Easy peasy.
Hey @bowhunter! It was great to meet you today! To fill the rest of the forum in, this was my first time seeing the R1T in person, and boy did it impress me! Sorry to hold you up on your shopping trip, this truly made my week! Thank you! I can’t wait till mine arrives and perhaps we can plan a Oregon meet up. I’ll be excited to hear how it works out for your hunting trips.

I wondered when Rivian would start GPS restricting areas that aren’t adventurous enough. ?

But that requires actually opening the tonneau. I think I saw somewhere in the manual that it's only warrantied to 10 uses. Gotta ration them.

I'm 6'4", so maybe I'm not the best witness, but here a few thoughts from me, having used my R1T for a few days now:

1. It's pretty great to be able to set the vehicle down to its lowest height, to make reaching into the bed easier. It might still be a problem for those who are vertically challenged, but...
2. The gear tunnel doors make pretty handy steps for getting up into the bed, if you need to.
3. The frunk is pretty useful for chucking bags of groceries into; however, it's not super deep, so tall bags (like standard paper grocery bags) might not be a good fit if they're filled to near the top.
4. Personally, the gear tunnel is where I put my grocery bags. It's easy to access and about the right size for such purposes. Also, things don't slide around like they would in the bed.
5. The Honda Ridgeline side-swinging-station-wagon-style tailgate is still the gold standard for ease of bed access; but I'm not sure how you would engineer that functionality and a goose-neck hinge into the same solution. So, I guess we'll just have to live with that compromise.

Rule of thumb - NEVER buy anything at Harbor Freight that could injure you if it breaks!

Harbor freight is the Australia of stores: everything there can kill you

It was great to meet you too! No worries at all on holding me up as I totally get it and was happy to let you "kick the tires" :) It was nice to geek out a bit with you and your wife rather than the usual conversation of answering "who makes Rivian."

As far as meeting up there are a few of us that are going to try and get together in the coming weeks and I'll try and keep you in the loop on that and future meetups plans.

No garage is complete without one... ?
Garage?! Oh my Heck! I have friends in Salt Lake City who are grandparents of 27 growing grandkids, and counting! They need one of these in their nursery!

It looks like it would transport the kids, save the grandparents' backs, and, with a little tweaking, could probably remove and dispose of dirty diapers, all in one move!

I can see it now: The "No-Gripe, Swipe 'n Dipe", coming to a Baby's 'R Us near you.*
