The filter is 50/70/120/200 and only 1-70kw about 30+ miles away and the next closest is 100+ away
Not too bad, i never use local chargers, so yeah like you mentioned getting home charging sorted should fix your issue.

It's not all bad, is it? (For reference I took this photo Thursday afternoon)

Looks like you've enjoyed quite a lot of driving that thing around already!

I should have said "a" Thursday afternoon. It was over a week ago. Truck is sitting in my driveway with 3916 miles on the odo. We drove it from Metro Detroit down to Ft Myers Florida and back. That photo was from Ft Myers.
I imagine it's probably the highest mileage production HEV at this point, but have no way of verifying that.

At a 50kw charger I was seeing 130mph charging rate which could get you through a few 2 hour driving sessions on the hwy depending on the charge station distancing.
If I'm doing my math right, I think I would need something more powerful than a 50 kW charger to get me 2 hours worth of driving in ~20 minutes of charging.

At 70 (ish) mph I will need to cover 140 miles in those 2 hours. I'm going to be very glass half full here and say that I will average ~2 miles per kWh. That means I'll burn through ~70 kWs in those 2 hours and will need to put that much back into the pack.

At a 50 kw charger, I would theoretically get 50 kw back into the pack in an hour or 25 kW in 30 minutes or ~17 kW in 20 minutes. That would only get me ~34 miles of range.

To achieve close to 140 miles of range (or ~70 kw back into the pack) I think I would need a minimum of a 200 kW charger.

That sounds like a great way to get acquainted with the new ride.

Did you want to share your thoughts/experience for the trip?

Was it as comfortable as you thought? How was the range? Any issues with charging?

Thanks

My experience so far has been with ChargePoint chargers and my Rivian 120v plug in at 2mph.
I’m not sure how it can be a disappointment when you likely knew ahead of time you’d be charging at home with a 120v plug and could have done the math.

I'm expecting my ZEF Energy 11.5kw charger soon.

I don't understand the thought process behind the installation of 6.6-7.4kw chargers that seem to be the most common around here. I took just under a half hour to recover my to-from mileage at "ChargePoint" Hy-Vee Location in Maple Grove MN.
Level 2 should be history – those made sense for PHEV in 2015, not BEV in 2022-25.

Unless you are towing a trailer. Then you will only get 17 miles of driving for each 20 minutes of charging.

I fully admit my EV ignorance. I assumed that the various EV charging points I had seen would actually change the vehicle lol. Well they don’t charge at a level I think any reasonable user needs. I’ve tried a grand total of 3 chargers in my area and the best rate so far has been 14mph. With a low of 2.6 at the Maple Grove GRE campus. For me this could make the truck a toy vs a tool as I await my 60 amp chargers for work and home.

My experience so far has been with ChargePoint chargers and my Rivian 120v plug in at 2mph.

Where are the DC fast chargers around here ? 20 minutes into charging and I have recovered the distance from my place to the charger. What a frikin joke

Forgive any typos as I’m stuck at a charging station without my glasses and my IPhones doesn’t offer Braille
Are you the first R1T in Minnesota?
What's your zip code?
I read you're waiting a wall mounted charger, a quicker way would be to get an electrician to install the wall mount location and fit it with a 14-50 outlet. I did this when installing a Tesla HPWC – adding a 14-50 outlet is "cheap" and provides for charing a second vehicle using it's portable connector. You'll also find 14-50 outlets at RV parks.

What else do you expect? It’s really at the limit of what is possible at home and it is very convenient for most people and how they use their cars.

Yeah if you live in the nd/sd/mt/wy it’s not the right time for ev unless you’re just daily driving. And daily is fine regardless if you have your home charging.

For now, yes. If you have a long drive, charge up to 100%, and then always charge when stopped wherever you can. EA will have i-90 covered by end of year. RAN will have I-29 covered as well. I haven't really researched whatever ND has planned, but from what I've seen the utilities out there realized late that 50kw won't cut it and are pivoting to higher power chargers.

Rivian R1T R1S Charging Speed is a MAJOR disappointment (ChargePoint 811F4410-D253-4482-9A56-516AD3F1CB45
For a couple of months I’m going to have to be reliant on public charging for the R1T. I have an EA station nearby which is my main go to. The speedis ok - I have been charging at pretty high battery levels so see a big drop-off in charging rates as the battery fills up but it’s a bit pricey @ 0.43c/kW. Have been spoiled with free supercharging with the Midel S.

I’m sure ? Rivian is going to improve the overall efficiency of the battery in time.
