That would be a great solution. Incidentally though, the windows on the R1T roll down SUPER slow. So doubt this would be a viable solution.
They go slower when you do auto (2 clicks), but faster when only going 1 click. For me, at least.

I'm not convinced it is a pressure issue at all. I have never had any issues closing the front doors, they close very solidly every time at least for me.

It’s not the app that uses BT. It’s the phone that connected directly to the car. I can kill the app completely and the phone still is connected. Much like a Bluetooth speaker.
I was going to suggest just closing the app on IOS. I do this for my wife's Tesla as I only drive it occasionally and the battery drain on my phone was noticeable. Seems like there is no way as yet to disable background app refresh so that it isn't connected when you close the app.

This would be super annoying in a 30-40k car but is completely unacceptable in a (now) nearly 6 figure luxury vehicle.

I'm really surprised this wouldn't have gotten addressed during employee testing. My guess is that they are aware of it but just plowed ahead due to cost/engineering of designing new fobs, sensors, etc.

I'm gonna need measurements from ground to the door handle at various suspension heights to see if I can just keep the key card in my wallet and do a butt tap on the handle when I walk up. This would be my ideal solution.

Funny thing is, all of these issues would automatically be resolved if they turned the metal key into a passive key. I can't understand why that key is not passive. But I guess if you don't have a touch capacitive surface then the key would always be pinged so battery on the key would likely run out very quickly.

I just went and disabled the approach feature, and something else occurred to me. You can't leave the car unlocked unless you want it to always be ready to go. Which means it runs all the screens, the HVAC and air suspension is always running if the vehicle is simply unlocked so basically you MUST lock your vehicle because that seems to be the only way to turn all this shit off. I have to agree with Matt Farah's assessment that all EVs should have a ON/OFF button.

A lot of this arises from the idea that EVs should innovate everything. I totally disagree with that. I think cars in general have figured out a lot of things over time for good reason. The whole keyless/go situation has been getting ironed out for the past 20+ years. My Gladiator does an absolutely brilliant job of it including a flawless remote start feature. I think EV companies should only focus on innovating in the areas that are ICE related. And yes, please, innovate the heck out of that. But trying to innovate the way the doors open and close (Model X), and locking, and lighting, is just re-inventing the wheel. Which I'm sure one of the is about to do.
the best design is often times, no design. way over thinking trying to be innovative and/or cool leads to spending too much time on things that don't need that much time and apparently has led to Rivian missing some simple/basic things.

  • If I park at the trailhead and go for a run, leaving my phone and wallet inside the truck, how do I lock the truck when I walk away? Is the truck smart enough to realize it's locked with the phone proximity key inside?
The NFC keys will override
This will not help. It uses Bluetooth proximity, not location for the lock/unlock function. You can disable GPS location altogether and PaaK still works just fine.
Are you on Android or iOS?

Android, but it shouldn't really matter. Location (especially coarse) isn't accurate enough (or timely enough in some scenarios) to be effective.

This "active" keyfob functionality … a keyfob that isn't a proximity key … inconceivable! : )

I'll have to try this "2 click" thing functionality.
I guess a better way to describe it would be 'stages' vice 'clicks'. I hope I didn't add any confusion. When I use the 'manual' first stage, the window moves about twice as fast as the 'auto' second stage. YMMV based on (previously mentioned) firmware and potentially hardware differences.

I see. I assume they all behave the same.
