Once you get your new truck, please post the vin of the old one since there’s a good chance one of us will get it.
Hopefully Rivian would just put it in the loaner/test drive vehicle/mobile service fleet. Seems like it would/could open a can of worms if they just tried to re-deliver it to another customer.

Here’s what I think is reasonable if I were in your situation.

Provide a comprehensive summary of what was repaired, ideally from the body shop and not Rivian.

Provide the name of the body shop who did the work so you can check their reputation

Make an appointment or bring the vehicle to you so you can inspect the work. Or if you have a local body shop or detail shop you trust have them inspect the work.

Whenever you paint part of a car the paint mixture will all have a slight variance. So the fresh paint will be a little lighter or darker than the rest. It will be subtle but in direct sun you can usually spot it. Typically the body shop just blends the new painted area into the undamaged area so it’s harder to spot. So a good detail shop or body shop can tell you if the work was done well or not.

I would have asked for a new truck if it required major repaint but I am a picky SOB

that said you may end up with a better paint job. The factory paint on most of the trucks has a decent amount of orange peel in the clear coat.A good body shop would have better application and wet sanding to get rid of that.

If they are being cagey on the info that’s not a good sign. Call them on that. Of they are happy with the work then why not share all the details?

Thanks DaveA.

Yours is a tough spot to be in. Easy to say, tough to do, but if you get that feeling inside that you aren't satisfied do not accept it. Especially for a paint rework.

Luckily I've owned enough cars in my lifetime and at a age (and position) I will not settle.

When our guide texts me to set a delivery time I will ask what happens if I refuse delivery if I am unhappy with what I see.
It is reasonable to expect a repair or replace to expectation especially workmanship (paint, alignments, and the like) related issues. While it sounds really good, to expect a completely new/different vehicle replacement is probably over board. ?… but I suppose we also have to right to refuse the delivery for whatever reason. I don’t even want to think what happens then - costs, refunds, etc… and no R1T ?.

I don't know...

My truck had an FM radio issue, a minor rock chip, and some minor PPF issues on the gear tunnel door (all of which were pointed out to me by Rivian-- not by me doing an inspection). They gave me the option to take delivery or wait for those issues to get fixed.

We happily took delivery and I'm so happy we did. These issues are minor and once fixed no one will ever know the difference.

Only one easy way to find out. Give us that VIN!

Rivian guide texted me today and said they have matched us with a new vehicle and once it passes inspection they will schedule delivery.

I asked if it was a new VIN (for insurance purposes) and did not receive a response yet but I am assuming so since theoretically a different/new vehicle.

Wow. I would demand a new truck. Because that’s what I had agreed to.
I would also ask to return the money until your new truck is ready.
your guide really doesn’t have any pull in this area. You may want to escalate to next level. Maybe management?

I've been in your position for the past month as well. Once Rivian decided to swap out VINs, matching took less than a day and delivery was the following day. Hopefully, it's that quick for you as well.

So, what ever happened here? They swapped you into a new one? Everything good?

Last Friday our guide said Rivian was switching out the first truck with a new vehicle (even gave me a new VIN#) and after PDI they would schedule delivery.

Last communication from guide was Monday morning. Radio silence since.

I will reach out tomorrow to see what's going on. It being the end of the week I'm skeptical about them making delivery by next week's end. But who knows. I'll update when guide tells me something.

When do you get yours back?

*Edit
When I last spoke with my guide I asked if I could switch out the standard 20s for the black 20s. They said they could but that would delay things because they would have to basically get me another truck. I replied "let's just stay the course then". Maybe, maybe they took that to mean I wanted to wait to get the wheels. At least that would explain the delay, but at this point I don't want to wait any longer...lol

Well, it was transferred from Dallas to Houston Service center to recalibrate ADAS equipment after it had all been taken apart from the respray I imagine…I’m thinking Saturday?

I hope so.

If it were me, I would make sure to check it out in bright daylight and from every angle, maybe even put it under some florescent lights in the garage if possible.

Truly hope they got it right for you.

Delivery scheduled for Wednesday the 11th at 2pm. They tried for Monday the 9th but of course it was the one day I had to be somewhere.

Cautiously optimistic, asked if they would stuff it in a giant nerf football for transit. Will post pictures of all the good and bad once I take possession.
