Received my 8 step email from RIVIAN on Saturday (1am) morning. Unfortunately I’m stuck on step 4 of 8. My insurance agent is closed for the memorial weekend. So I can’t provide the proof of insurance. Starting to get excited. I heard once you have completed the 8 step delivery is about 1-2 weeks.
You can complete every other step without completing the insurance step. You just have to have proof of insurance in hand when picking up or taking delivery. One of the insurance advisors indicated this to me and advised me to wait until I have a delivery date before initiating insurance, which helps avoid paying for the vehicle's insurance before you have it, or a reasonable assurance it will actually reach your hands.

Delivery scheduled for Friday Tomorrow June 9th!!!

Unfortunately, I won't be home so my wife is taking delivery and I get to watch over FaceTime until I am home on Sunday… It’s going to be a long weekend.

Update: Was able to change delivery to tomorrow. Confirming with my Guide that it's real and not a bug on their website.

Update 2: Delivery is set for the 9th. The truck is in transit which is why delivery windows opened up, but the date it’ll be ready for me to take delivery of is the 9th.

I tired to send them my insurance card on my current vehicle. That was a no go. It got rejected. LoL

Got ahold of my insurance company. They want a delivery date for the vehicle so they know when to make the insurance effective. I told them I can’t give them that date until RIVIAN unlocks that part. But they won’t until I provide proof of insurance. ? what a pain in the butt.

Insurance step doesn't have to be complete to get a delivery date. You just need insurance proof uploaded before you take delivery.

I'm technically an April/May delivery window but since that is now past, it looks like I might be a June delivery. Originally had VIN ending in 5346 but it sat for 3weeks+ at the factory without any updates. I contacted my guide last week who said there was another truck I could take delivery of sooner if I upgraded interior to FE. Made the switch and now my guide isn't sure if that truck can be allocated to me or not. This is getting to be quite frustrating.

My guide said my truck in currently in transport (last check in was Iowa). I have completed all the 8 set except for 8 which is locked and the insurance document. So step 8 will unlock before I submit the insurance info? My guide is telling me she needs that first.

Rivian insurance folks said to make sure your insurance starts on the delivery date. Which would counter what your guide is saying.

All of this insurance stuff seems more complicated than it needs to be.

I have State Farm Insurance and they have a 14 day grace period when you buy a new car where it is covered. Whenever I purchased a new car, I would just stop by my agent on the next business day and give them the information.

So step 8 will unlock before I submit the insurance info?
addressing just this point/question in your post.

No. Finishing through Step 7 (or all steps prior to 8) does not unlock Step 8 to schedule a delivery date. I mean it might in a qwirk of fate but the trigger for Step 8 (to the best of my understanding) happens when your assigned VIN vehicle has be successfully transported to whichever local service center is handling it... AND it has successfully gone trough the final PDI. Only then can you (or your guide, or the local service center mgr.) agree and pick available appointment time.

I think Rivian locked down the Step 8 opening after hard lessons with earlier deliveries that went off the rails but the expectant owner already set a Delivery appointment. Heck, they still seem to be cancel/postpone a pickup appointments even after tightening the protocols. Mine got delayed by five days when PDIs were reprioritized at the local center. So my Step 8 was settled, then reset to open & locked for almost a week.

I had all 8 steps completed before they approved my documents including insurance.

Hmmm I must be getting a rejected one. LoL
Don't worry about your number, I'm in the 4500s in SoCal and waiting for my truck to arrive at the El Segundo service center. VINs are not necessarily in order of manufacture.
