We add about 40-50 miles per day to the Rivian via excess solar production (depending upon the AC use here in the desert).....If I would have known I would have doubled the size of my solar system.
How's the truck behaving so far? You're an early delivery

I have a feeling that you are the reigning, undisputed and unified multiple belt holding champion of the North American kWh!! Congratulations! Hoping someone upsets the existing champion...
Still way cheaper than ⛽

So what number is everyone quoting?

Here in IL we have supplier costs and transmission costs and a bunch of other fees per kwh.

Are you summing to include all the fees or just the supply cost?

Or is IL the only one that breaks it out like that?

With all fees tacked on, we're paying an actual rate of $0.26/kWh up here in Massachusetts on National Grid.

Thats a sweet price. My utility (PGE) in OR charges ~14 cents/kWh at all times (I pay extra for the ‘green’ plan) but that is only what I pay over and above what my 8kW PV system produces :)
I'm on the same plan from PGE with the same size PV system, along with two Powerwalls.

You live in IL.........

  • I'm billed $0.064 kWh when charging
  • May was $37.77 plus $3.93 in taxes using 584 kWh.
  • Ave rate: $0.0714 kWh for May 2022

I'm on an identical solar set-up. 8kW with two Powerwalls. I feel like I'm actually gaining an advantage over my utility company, as well as the petrol providers of America.....nice to at least feel good about yourself ;)

Right, but people may be taking their bill and dividing the amount by kwh.

In my case there's about $15 in fees not tied to kwh.

My bill was slightly less than double yours, $70.70 for the 463 kWh.

$0.09/KWh for me on a standard rate plane. I could get $0.08 offpeak, but that would raise my peak rate to $0.12. Not sure that would actually save me money since I don’t drive all that much.

In Central Ohio we’re paying ~$.093/kWh out the door…..transmission fees, raw energy fee, etc. This is the same price 24/7, so no incentives to charge off peak.

We were going to look into solar, but couldn’t justify the cost when our energy fees are so low. Also, my wife’s new school has free chargers, so we won’t spend much charging her car anymore and she is the one who drives the most.

What kind of annual energy do you get from an 8kW system in AZ? I guess a lot more than Portland. Almost the end of my first year I think I will be at 9-10 MWh with my 8kW system facing south.

Base 7.7/kWh, but then there's a fuel surcharge, which is around 4cents more per.

Have solar with monthly net metering, so it tabs out ok.

Getting out on an EV pilot rate that'll let me do 3.3c/kWh from 10pm-5am as long as I submit proof of registration yearly, and my extra draw is commensurate with an EV (no crypto mining).
