And so it goes for Rivian comms.

More questions than answers, obvious long delays for the R1S with no guts to actually say such, and more BS.

SOP.
This is what gets me, every time. On the one hand, nobody's going to be surprised by a long R1S delay because we can all see what's (not) happening with our eyes. So the announcement won't really be breaking any ground.

On the other hand, why are they so scared of telling the truth about R1S status? What do they have to gain by pretending things are fine, or close to fine, when they plainly are not?

Well, at least we'll have more information this week. But of course it won't be trustworthy because Rivian has no track record of transparency or honesty.

Any non-Tesla 3-row all-electric SUVs I can order? At this point I'd drop Rivian if there were any viable competitors close to delivery.

I'm going to be an optimist and say R1S orders who have already been assigned a guide will likely still get 2022 delivery, while those who have not are probably getting pushed into 2023.

We'll see I suppose, but I did find it out that in recent interviews Rivian was quoted as saying something to the effect "we are still confident in launching the R1S this year". Thought it was odd wording if it was set to launch in a few weeks...

Nope and Nope.
Log into your account and chat with CS. (Don't do it today, the queue is long)
Nearly everyone with a pre-order prior to Dec got an email before the end of 2021 with a delivery window estimate.

My interpretation of the following is:

"This includes much anticipated updates to many of our R1S preorder holders. For those who’d previously received an estimated window in 2022 but will now be later than that, we want you to have this update so that you can adjust your plans accordingly."

Means:
... we're loosing money for every R1S selling at the original price, so lets get the reservation holders to cancel themselves...

The build cost most likely is less than the original price so they are not losing per vehicle by itself, per sa, but when you consider it takes up a place of R1T, then it does because of the opportunity cost of line replacement of S for T.

It's even odder wording if they're already making them (if only for employee deliveries), as I think they have claimed.

Well it's just semantics. They are clearly making them and releasing them into the wild, the details are important to some and not to others. I presume what they were referring to in that quote is the customer launch. Previous statements for the investor/business crowd is more focused on the actual physical start of production, which are different things.

The way I read the email, and I may just be an optimist, is for people who had already been contacted about their S and their delivery date that was April-June will now get confirmation of their new delivery.

I talked to my guide on Friday and He said R1S ramp up is already happening.

I mean, we'll see, but they stuck the discussion of R1S dates in the "not until 2023" section of the email. If there were any meaningful number of R1S deliveries taking place in 2022, wouldn't they have mentioned new R1S dates in the "2022" section? I am a Feb 2019 LE in a major market and haven't heard from a guide yet, so if I'm 2023, almost every R1S should be.
