It bugs me that they ignore it. They can think their system is night and day better. They can even think CarPlay/Android Auto would ruin the experience but give the option. I am frightened by people who use zoom mode on their phones but I don't want the feature removed just because I don't find it useful.Did you see the Reddit AMA with a software engineer from Rivian? Single most discussed feature was CarPlay. The guy basically ignored it. Only acknowledgment was confirming the hardware is there to support it (which we already knew).
I guess they figure if they put their fingers in their ears and say āa-la-la-la our native system is betterā itāll just go away.

Given some of Rivianās past communications with customers, it wouldnāt surprise me if they were to deny considering CarPlay until at least one day AFTER someone on the forum plugs an iPhone into their Rivian and is prompted to connect with CarPlay.Toyota comes to mind as one of the latter big OEMs to integrate Carplay. They ignored consumer feedback up until they added it in and all of a sudden it was a great feature to offer their customers.

Um, yeah that would go over great with the 600 person deep software team at Rivian that believed they were part of something unique and different in joining them to create something of their own. RJ walks in, hey guys keep up the great work. Oh, by the way, we're going to implement a fully integrated Car Play feature so owners can completely ignore everything you're doing/creating. Cheers.Crazy thought but what if Rivian is a candidat for the new fully integrated CarPlay? Also, Lucid just added CarPlay to their cars? Maybe there is hope.
I donāt think the integration of the new Apple CarPlay will mean that Rivian can do without their software team. Apple CarPlay is just an UI, everything in the back end still need to be programmed.Um, yeah that would go over great with the 600 person deep software team at Rivian that believed they were part of something unique and different in joining them to create something of their own. What a kick in the nuts/ovaries.
It sure would help the 5% labor downsizing they are reportedly planning. They would get that number just in software engineers quitting, saving them tons in severance packages.

That and the plethora of other features outside the scope of CarPlay, like pet mode, dash cam, drive modes, etc. If anything adding CarPlay would allow Rivian devs to focus on the elements of the software which are not covered by CarPlay rather than spinning their wheels trying to recreate Apple Music, Amazon Music, Waze, Google Maps, etc.I donāt think the integration of the new Apple CarPlay will mean that Rivian can do without their software team.
