My only nitpick with this statement is that I don't think there is any shortage of people who are willing to take a truck with 21" wheels, only that there are less of those among the LE crowd than the non-LE crowd since they don't have the free AT option. I think the reason there are so many 21" wheel configs in the shop that aren't being claimed is that most shop invites are going to LE reservation holders (due to the fact that most people with invites have '19/'20 preorder dates) who are much less likely to want the 21" wheels than their non-LE counterparts. Considering the monetary value of a LE truck, I'd certainly be hesitant to downgrade if I had an LE reservation as well.
makes sense, which is the problem. if LE folks are the majority of folks with access to the Shop but they aren't willing to take 21s and Shop access is now not removed after a certain amount of time, were in a slow trickle until the vehicles in the Shop get bought or folks who have access to the Shop decide to make the purchase.

Right. There are 3 options really: add more non-LE buyers into the shop, pull trucks from the shop and assign them after a period of time, or hope LE buyers get desperate enough to compromise.

Personally I think option 1 is best and easiest for Rivian. Open it up to everyone Pre-2022 and let it be a free for all.

As someone with current access, I'm selfishly holding on to it IN CASE my preferred build happens to show up randomly.

I'd be in favor of just continuing the rolling admission. Open it to two month groups whenever the inventory for a given SC reaches some critical limit of...8 trucks (pulled from thin air).

For example, this week it's Nov/Dec 2020, next admission group Jan/Feb 2021, etc.

Not likely with a 2022 preorder. We’re the untouchables. Unless….do you happen to have a YouTube channel?

I think about the whole OC thing differently. Per Rivian the OC didn't meet their QC standards from the supplier. That sounds like not quite Rivian's fault.

Not ordering enough ATs would be a whole different kind of dumb. Nothing like marketing yourself as an adventure vehicle, and not being able to sell said adventure trim vehicle. Of course it could be Pirelli's issue, etc.

As someone who started as a Max pack, I just cant shake the feeling that I'm continually being strung along for a bait and switch (which is how I view the Shop).

Jumping back on topic, the more I think about your suggestion that Shop allocation goes to number of undelivered preorders, the more it makes sense. Lending credence: there is only one service center in the southeast. It only recently came fully online. Anecdotally, almost everyone I have heard of around here wants the offroad package with ATs. That would be in creeping with our local truck culture.
So I'll add another data point to this. Up until yesterday I had my address in DFW set as my delivery address because that's where I expected to be during my anticipated delivery window. The address is about 40 miles from the DFW SC. Yesterday, as a test, I changed my delivery address to my permanent address in Charleston, which is ~250 miles from the ATL SC. This morning, on a whim, I changed my delivery address to where I spend my time during the week in Clemson, SC, which is about 120 miles from the ATL SC. This evening got invited to lock my configuration. The only thing I changed in that process was my delivery address.

Could be total coincidence, but unlikely. My guess is, ATL is getting a higher output right now than DFW (could be several reasons), and the acceptable delivery radius for Rivian right now is between 130 miles and 250 miles.

You forgot strategy #4

Chaos. Drift back and forth putting out fires until you cant see straight from exhaustion.

This sounded funny in my head but now I think I just need a nap.

My exact build is there, let me have it please. I am also in WA state so what is the problem. In case the ElCap is gone, I will take the Forest Green. I am not that picky.

Yup there's 2 of the FG/FE that I have configured and it just pains me to see it available on the shop and I don't have access. I would even make the drive from NYC to Atlanta to pick it up.

Down to only 18 trucks available in Atlanta today. Seems like a few more early 20AT preorders broke down and got the 21s.

Not coincidence.....you're beating the algorithm!!!!!! Winning!
Now that I have a VIN and it's in the 92XX range I have a better feel. It's a truck that is either in production or very recently finished, meaning that something in my matching criteria went from a "no" to a "yes" with the changes I made. If I had to guess, I'd say it was ATL vs DFW and getting inside of whatever magical radius they have determined to be acceptable.

damn... my sister used to live in Georgia but just moved back to CA. im going to try and change address to CA to see if that does anything.

did you have a Guide before you did the address change test?

and how do you specify which is your delivery address? i see we can add multiple addresses but dont see how you indicate which address is for what
