Am I the only one on this forum that think EV purchase subsidy is an unnecessary thing and is a waste of taxpayers money?

Just look at the backlog of EVERY EV on the market. There is no demand problem and more and more, each period of reporting, % of EV sales as a whole is growing rapidly.

I much rather see the money being spent on national charging infrastructure. As for helping lower income to purchase EVs, lets make the income threshold down to $160K for joint and $80K for single. Limit the cost of EVs to less than $60K for trucks and SUVs and $45K for autos.

I am very disappointed that new EV subsidies have come back. The only incentives should be on the infrastructure side and making our grid more robust as EVs will put significant strains on the power demands in the future.

See post #81 in this thread, I completely agree….

I actually agree with this. I would rather have no incentives at all, but if we’re going to have them they should be applied logically.

Not sure if it's the way they will look at it, but the MSRP listed on my truck's title is $67,500. All the extras I ordered with the truck weren't included there.
Very interesting. Thank you
My Raptor MSRP includes the base price plus all the options.

Just to reiterate the obvious point: the MSRP cap is meaningless and unenforceable. For example, all Rivian has to do is sell the R1S Adventure (current prices) for $79,900 with a 220 mile range and 0-60 of 7 seconds. Then it can offer a software upgrade pack that boosts to 315 miles and 3 seconds for $12,000 or a monthly subscription. The end.

There are also large backlogs of ICE vehicles as well, which have no rebates. One reason why EVs have huge backlogs now is because all vehicles are hard to get. Also, people like me on 3 different lists, but only intend to buy one. The rebate does get people (like me) to consider vehicles they weren’t considering before. Other things I have considered other than Rivian are a Raptor, Jeep Wrangler 392, or a couple sports cars.

$7.5 Billion went to that in the Infrastructure bill earlier this year.

Thanks I am aware of the DOT initiative.

Its not enough. Its a start. The government has to find a way to incentivize private sector to build out infrastructure for profit so that we have DC fast chargers where, like there is are gas stations everywhere. The cost will be prohibitive if DOT or DOE does it so free market has to be incentivized to do this.

Where governments can lead is to put chargers in EVERY rest stop on highways throughout the country. Some cities and counties are already doing this.

Anybody have a good idea of if signing a PBA is sufficient to get grandfathered into the old tax credit under the transition plan in this? I signed mine almost three months ago and still waiting…

Part of the bill attempts to collect taxes from large corporations who notoriously avoid paying anything year after year. This country spends money on all kinds of things that are subjectively good or bad depending on whom you ask. The one thing we all know is if we don’t bring in tax revenue we can’t pay for any of it. Not even the basics.
But corporations don't pay taxes. All taxes are imbedded into the product consumers buy including payroll taxes. The government needs to reduce spending by a ton and let each state decide.

I asked my guide this very thing... I don't have a signed PBA for my R1S yet, but I would sign one if it meant securing the credit before my 1H2023 delivery estimate.

You don't need chargers everywhere there are gas stations. The vast majority of people will charge at home and only require DCFC when they travel. If anything what we need is L1 charging at ever parking spot at airports and a ton of L2 charging available at all the places we go, stores, restaurants, hotels, etc. L3 charging really ought to be relegated to highway travel and definitely should be at every rest stop, truck stop, and gas station at highway interchanges and along rural highways.
