POLL: Would you pay for PPF if you only plan on keeping 3 years? (Cold Climate)

I'm debating on Rivian Blue (no PPF) vs LA Silver with full Stealth PPF. The look is cool, but I only keep my cars for about 3 years. Perhaps I would enjoy the benefit of not ever having swirl marks or having to wax for 36+ months? I live in Minnesota. However, I don't think it adds value to a used truck when it comes time to sell...

If you aren't doing serious offroading where you might expect scratches, then I'd say no. Even if $4.5k is good value today, you will not make it back when you sell in 3 years.

I used to stress a ton over small rock chips and scratches for all my vehicles. My Tesla is the first where I'm just like meh, whatever. Nobody cares, they're hard to see unless you're really looking for them, and they really don't effect resale value in my experience, and if they do, it's a negligible amount. I say save your cash.

I put a dent in my gear tunnel door while we were camping this weekend. PPF didn't save it from that. I'm not worried about scratches in the paint because Rivian doesn't use steel body panels so even if it goes all the way into the metal, it won't rust.

I would not.
I rarely keep anything that long (so far longest was a little under 2 years - I know it’s dumb and a waste of money) but what makes me say that is your location.
Keep the money and go on a nice trip with it. Enjoy some sun somewhere.

Still, anything that's a big enough scratch to go through to bare metal isn't going to care that you have a bit of plastic over it.

I always put PPF on my cars that I plan to drive up to the mountains in Winter.

But, I never buy PPF from a manufacturer or dealer. They are much more expensive and often don't wrap the edges or put the best material on (which tends to fade in the Colorado sun).

There are plenty of small shops that use the best material available and are very crafty with putting PPF on vehicles.

For that price, I can easily get the best material and much better installation covering the front, door sills, mirrors, and the tailgate. I may even get ceramic tinting included.

Maybe some wont. But some will. I have a scratch on my tailgate that is down to metal and I'm pretty sure PPF would have saved me.

Got the touch-up paint on order, and once repaired I'm going to put some PPF on there.

I’ve never done PPF before, but this time am seriously considering it. Our climate on the coast is harsh - impossible to keep paint clean in the salt air, plus I have cypress trees over the driveway that sh*t out sap farticles everywhere (argh - hate).

Also, the matte effect over pretty much any of the Rivian colors is <chef’s kiss> amazing.

Just for 'present cost vs. future value', the Rivian front-only is the one to pick.

1. It's the front that will accumulate the majority of the rock chips. Maybe add some extra at the leading edge of the rear wheel for some extra $.
2. A future buyer might not want the 'stealth' finish.
3. While $4,500 might be a bargain for a full wrap, I don't think it will command that resale premium three years down the road.

Also keep in mind that the front of the Rivian is pretty much a brick pushing through the air at ~80 mph. Mine had some very small rock chips on that leading edge within a few hundred miles. It also depends a bit on what color you have... Dark colors tend to show rock chips much more than lighter colors.
