This type of mount was discussed elsewhere in this thread. They don’t work in a Rivian because the screen is more integrated into the dash design vs “tacked on ipad”. The corners of the screen aren’t available for the attachment. I have one of these I used in our Mach E and would have loved to use it again in the Rivian. Location-wise it would be perfect.
Respectfully disagree. There is enough room to mount this on the Rivian display, IMHO

Might need some trimming of the mounting plastic, but seems doable. The location looks pretty Ideal. If I ever get my R1, ill try it (Dec 21 preorder with no update on delivery...)

Interesting...I'd love to see a pic of the install without cutting up the mount.

There absolutely is not enough room in my truck to use the similar mount I own. And if my mount could attach to the screen I'm not sure the arm would clear the wood.

I’m using the Magsafe Tesla mount which has a very similar attachment area. Would send you pictures but my truck is getting the full PPF currently

This batch will be an update from the last one - the balls will be slightly larger accommodate for poor tolerances on some of the cell phone mounts. Also, a 1" version will also be available in very, very quantities.

...
I think it would be great if you could offer a mount that doesn't have the ball and just a surface to screw or bolt a ram mount ball adapter to.

Once you have that, its easy to install something like:
https://rammount.com/products/ram-b-237u
or
https://rammount.com/products/RAM-B-238U

And then you get to use whatever ram mount accessory you want to position it.

For now, I'm considering getting one of your mounts and probably modifying it so I can mount a RAM ball on it.

I can potentially do that. I'll need to account for the nut on the back, so I'll need dimentions.

The initial reason I included the ball was because every cell phone mount had its own mounting clip system to attach to vents (or whatever) were all really different and it was important to take that out of the equation. With a RAM ball, it's pretty standardized so that isn't a consideration.

Just a quick heads up that more of the ball mount I've made will be available starting Tuesday, August 23rd at 1:00 PM Eastern. They will remain available until the order is sold through.

This batch will be an update from the last one - the balls will be slightly larger accommodate for poor tolerances on some of the cell phone mounts. Also, a 1" version will also be available in very, very quantities.

The cost to me has slightly increased so I've had to pass that along. They will cost $13.25 now instead of $12. The 1" model will cost a whopping $14.50, mainly due to the lower quantity.

Shipping charges have been reduced as well per a new volume discount. This should basically offset the slight per-item price increase.

Finally, if you're someone from the last batch who has an issue with your mount, please reach out to me via the contact form on Riviparts.com with your order number and I'll get your replacement in the mail.
I’ve sent you a request for a replacement (mine is flopping) and an order for the new 1” thru the website- thanks!

I can potentially do that. I'll need to account for the nut on the back, so I'll need dimentions.

There are many options for how to mount a RAM ball: https://rammount.com/collections/ball-bases-b-size

And so they conform to various standard thread size/pitches, so it may just be whatever works best for your design. For the threaded ram balls, I assume there would be a recessed hex nut that you would screw it in against, so the dimensions would be the hole size and the hex nut size that you would use.

For the diamond ball base, the dimensions are on their site: https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0593/5346/4982/products/RAM-B-238U_4_1440x.jpg?v=1657590071

I really appreciate you taking the time to design and make these!

Can you post a picture of it mounted?

I don't feel much room behind my screen. I did look at this for mounting something else, but it was an no-go.

If you remove the adhesive (or simply poke 4 holes in the right spots) you'll see 4 small Phillips head screws. I removed these and flipped the split silver bar over and that gave more adjustment range. Even with that, I've got such a big phone that positioning so it doesn't interfere with the stalk is a challenge.
If I were to do it again I would likely cut 1" or so off the end of that split silver bar as it keeps the thing from sliding in as far as I'd liked. Doing so would also allow for angling that part upwards to the left a bit more to help with stalk clearance.

I know I'm late to the party, but what mag safe case do you use for your s22 ultra? I have the same phone and copying your set up.

Been meaning to post this for a while. I share the same (probably unwarranted) concern that the VHB tape will eventually cause issues with the pleather; there's really no reason to think that, 3M regard this kind of surface as 'medium energy' (i.e., some flex, as opposed to a hard surface), so the surface prep is a little more important, potentially using an adhesion promotor.

Anyway, we sell the Foldaway phone mount as a good option for the Model 3/Y, and I struggled to find a good position in the Rivian, but in the end went with under the central airvent, which, conveniently, is also near the 12v outlet (which I didn't even know about until I started poking around under there!). For me, I prefer this position compared to the top left of the center screen, as that tend to be obscured by the wheel. I don't like having to look down, but it's still much better than Rivian's charging and phone-launching slot. The downside of this location is that although the cupholder doesn't get in the way, you can't have a cup on one of the sides when your phone is mounted on the pad.

Anyway, few pics below. It's been stuck in place for a few weeks now, and it's been toasty here, but generally the truck isn't left in the sun. The USB cable is a 12" from Amazon.
