Look at the MyQ garage door openers. They can alert when opened, when closed, and on schedules if left opened. I have mine set to ping me at 10, 20, and 30 minutes if the garage is left open.
At my vacation house I also have it ping when the door opens and closes. It has saved me a couple of times when the door was not closed when going for a bike ride. You can also close it or open it from anywhere over Wi-Fi and check the status of the door position.
...and was it simply the horn honking repeatedly or a "dedicated siren" noise as it were?My alarm was triggered when my R1T was jacked up to remove the wheels (for powder coating) so the tilt sensor at least appears to work.
I setup a MyQ system for this exact purpose. Alerts when it has been open for >10 minutes and can remotely open/close from my phone. Paired with a camera in the garage to double-check the status.I'll figure out how to do this at my new place. Thanks.
The lights blinked and I got a notification on my phone....and was it simply the horn honking repeatedly or a "dedicated siren" noise as it were?
They're picking up my truck to bring to the SC Wednesday for repairs and also to do a full diagnostic. Will let everyone know if they find anything. Officers did swab the door for dna. Only on the door with the broken window.Such a good neighbor - they saw the garage door open and din’t care to the you know... sad really..
I had a neighbor across the street from me, years ago, the morning came and I went to open the garage door to take Sammie out, the door was OPEN.
While I was outside, my neighbor mention to me .. I saw your garage door open all night. I said, why didn’t you call me. She stumbled on her words and I walked away, never spoke to her again.
Back to the story - it will be interesting to hear feedback from the SC on why GG didn’t activate or the alarm didn’t activate.
Yes they'll be doing repairs and a full diagnostic of all systems, particularly Gear Guard.Did you contact Rivian??
Not that I anticipate it leading to the capture of the asshat that did this, but that’s pretty incredible. I have not heard of police doing this or even dusting for prints much anymore for theft cases.Officers did swab the door for dna. Only on the door with the broken window.
Why is Rivian responsible for this? Makes no sense. Gear Guard doesn’t prevent break ins!Or, if you don't want to replace your garage door opener, this is super cheap and effective.

I'm sure there are wifi versions too.
OP, talk to Rivian. They should pay for this. It is well documented that the Gear Guard Alarm simply doesn't work, and they are treading in very dangerous territory by not acknowledging it as a real issue and by shipping the trucks with a known false claim. They have potential legal liability here so I would bet they will be very accommodating to you.
I find it baffling that the trucks were shipped with this issue, and that even the latest software update only fixes the "screen on" issue and not the fact that the alarm still won't sound for any reason.
Because they advertised a feature that doesn't work at all. The advertising materials and owners manual lie to you about the working functionality of the system, and it is so trivially testable that it simply cannot be true that Rivian does not know about it.Why is Rivian responsible for this? Makes no sense. Gear Guard doesn’t prevent break ins!
They aren't. OP already said their insurance is going to be paying.I'm all about Rivian taking accountability but...this happened inside of a private garage...Rivian can't be expected to pay for this happening again and I sure hope they make OP sign something agreeing to such...
I get it... Gear Guard has issues but this wasn't a random, public parking lot...
