I can't watch those guys this morning or it will counteract all the coffee I have ingested so far. Can someone give me the lowdown? I would expect that Ford has Rivian beat because of all their previous seat making experience...

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
I’m not entirely sure Munro should be using emojis when the, ahem, alternative meaning is a little spicier.

And that's exactly why they used it. It's all about them clicks

The host did the lord’s work this time within 1 minute: the Rivian seat is higher quality and more luxurious.

I’m sure he goes on for the next 19 minutes saying a whole lot more, but that’s good enough for me for now.

I have spent the last 5 years sitting on a notoriously uncomfortable Toyota Tacoma seat, so literally anything will be an improvement for me.

Seats comfort is very subjective. My work chair is a pathetic pile of crap on purpose because it doesn't hurt my back vs the Aeron we also have, that are painful for me.

The seats in our Honda are great for me, but not the wife.

In short: Rivian's seat is nicer but horrendously inefficient to manufacture
I think they failed to recognize that much of this could be strategic and not just the result of inexperience. Selling a high end design with 0 profit margin may have been a strategic decision to gain a foothold in the market. They can cut corners in the name of profit margin on their next design after they have already proven they can deliver a product that doesn't suck.

It is certainly a big part of what earned them my order. If they had raised the price or reduced the quality to the extent that would be required for a healthy profit margin I wouldn't have been interested in taking a risk on a startup. If I wanted Ford quality I would be buying a Ford, and if I wanted Mercedes prices I would be buying a Mercedes.

So I guess based on this video, the next seat iteration should be a monolithic slab with manual seat controls.

I get there are some inefficiencies, but Rivian is also pointing at the luxury segment (unlike ford). Also its really harsh to continuously call the designs "stupid" when comparing one car manufacturer thats been building cars for over 100 years and one that has been building cars for about 1 year... I like the seat design, I hope they dont muck it up from all the Munro comments like they did with the tonneau and prob likely the camp kitchen / 12V in the frunk..

Id also wonder how this guy would comment on the EQS SUV seat and all the complexities that seat has, would that be stupid too? its a luxury car, but lets compare it to Ford.

The things he points out in the video are not issues of cutting corners. They're just smart decision-making. There's no reason to have 3-4 different bolt covers on the seats, for example. Making those consistent saves money without any reduction in quality.

You don’t like the Aeron? I think you’re the first person I’ve came across that doesn’t. My employees all try to fight over mine when I’m not here.

I just came from 6yrs in a 2017 Tacoma. I immediately noticed how much better the Rivian seats are the very first second I got in my new truck. Night and day.

I have a 2017 as well. All joking aside I don't think the Tacoma seats are THE most uncomfortable I ever had, but you would definitely expect better from Toyota.

Thank you for confirming - One more thing to look forward to!:sun:

I can't believe I'm saying this (and it may get me yelled at by my partner, she once made me lug a used Aeron many blocks down Manhattan streets) but I, too, can't stand the Aeron chair. Steelcase Gesture for the win.
