New Official Rivian Adventure Network and Charging Station Info

Exactly, when leaving Texas via that route I tend to try and make it to Santa Rosa when I’m outbound for the first night. On the way home I usually have a stop over in Lubbock. This past week was no different. EA has a charger in Sweetwater and Santa Rosa. But that 331 mile drive is just a bit long even with the 400 mile pack.

I own 150 acres just southeast of Santa Rosa. I tell people “it may not be the end of the earth, but it’d be a good place to start looking”

Looks like they’ve got the interstates covered, but yeah there is a gap in the central part. Glad to see one in West Yellowstone, since that’s needed in order for me to take the shortest (and most scenic) route to MT. I also notice two that appear to be inside YNP. Tesla couldn’t even pull that off! I’m impressed. That’ll be the first DCFC inside the park!

Legitimately thought I was looking at the wrong map. I had my hopes up at least. Oh well.

I really hope they support plug-and-charge on EA, like Ford. This kind of implies they won't.

The RAN coverage looks impressive though.

However, It's possible it will be "plug and charge" with the RAN network at least (as opposed to 3rd party CCS offerings) based on Rivian's statement...."Automatic charging, just pull up and plug in"....TBD though.

For early Model S/X owners, it's free unlimited supercharging for the life of the car.

What map are you looking at? I think we are looking at different ones. Lol. The only locations I saw were along the interstate and then going up to (I presume) sandpoint.

I did the best I could to compare Google Earth to Rivian's map. I think Sun Valley (Hailey/Ketchum) is clearly on their map and by triangulation, Salmon, ID, to the N/NE. Comparing Spokane to the Northern Idaho points, those two points are to the North of I-90 and line up with the Sand Point and Bonners Ferry areas. As I mentioned, there appear to be RAN stations along I-90 in Montana, but the one to the South of the Interstate, again, looks to be in the area of Salmon, ID. If you line up Rivian's map and extend the MT-WY border to the West, I think you'll see Salmon lines up nicely.

Regardless, anywhere on U.S. 93 will open up the Lolo Pass area and much of Central Idaho, getting you through to Sun Valley and back to I-84. I've been hoping and asking for Salmon and Sun Valley from the beginning. Otherwise, this outstanding area, including access to the River of No Return Wilderness Area would have been really tough to pull off.

Do you and Greg agree with the Bear Lake station in SE Idaho? It looks to be in the St. Charles area. Regarding Yellowstone, the Western location looks to be in or near West Yellowstone, ID, and the Northern one is likely in Gardiner, MT, near the classic gate at the Northern entrance to the Park. If one is actually in the deep interior of the Park, it looks to be near the Yellowstone Lake Lodge or the Old Faithful Lodge on the West Thumb highway. Because these locations may be roughly approximate, that Southern one may be around Flagg Ranch, which sits where Yellowstone N.P. meets Grand Teton N.P. As Greg said, it would be a major coup if Rivian was the first to get a DCFC station inside of a National Park.

Not to be greedy, but stations in McCall and Lewiston, ID would open up U.S. 95 and the Western side of Idaho and parts of S.E. Washington & N.E. Oregon. This would make the length of Hells Canyon Natl. Rec. Area accessible, along with the Walla Walla wine country, and it may allow two-way access to N.E. Oregon's Eagle Cap Wilderness Area and the Wallowa Lake region.

Remember in 2012-2013 when Tesla’s map had lots of charging locations like this? It took them awhile, but they finally completed most locations. I suspect Rivian will be the same.
this is not a complaint. I am delighted to see dedicated Rivian charging stations. I think they finally realized that EA charging isn’t going to be a quality experience for Rivian owners.

Agreed. The route is a little weird to get to LoLo/wilderness if no return from Boise. Better than nothing. I was just locked into the highway 55/95/21 routes.

There’s several J-1772 chargers in the park (mostly at hotels and lodges), but these will be the first DCFC.

Nothing in Bozeman which is a little disappointing. There’s a 50kW charger at the Harley dealer, so I can use that as a destination charger since that’s usually the endpoint for me.

SeaGeo, Your statements are spot on, as are Gshenderson's. I hope others catch his post in the Wyoming thread of late today. We know Customer Service is looking for feedback on gaps and other needs, so let's give them some.

In that post, Greg mentioned the Interstates, specifically I-15. As I said there, other than the Portneuf Gap area near Pocatello, I-15 is like a colonosopy. You know it'll get you to the results you need, but you'd be happy to avoid it for another five years.

The same is true for many of our Interstates, including much of I-5 & I-84 in my home state of Oregon. They're great for long, fast, straight-as-you-can-make-it travel, but it's the off-the-beaten-path locations that will make the RAN unique and Adventurous.

By the proximity to Yellowstone and Jackson, WY, I think that Southernmost Yellowstone location is either at, or near Flagg Ranch (on the border between Yellowstone and Grand Teton NPs), Yellowstone Lake Lodge, or the Old Faithful Lodge. Greg is right about the boundary of Yellowstone spilling over into MT and ID, but that Southernmost station looks to be well inside one of those two Parks.

Nice sleuthing both of you. I actually was thinking the same about flagg ranch. It'll be interesting to see where these actually end up.

Honestly, I'm just as excited they plan stations by Rainier, the north Cascades, and wenatchee/leavenworth area.

I’d been thinking of this purchase as just my daily driver, but having my wife’s PHEV SUV still continue to be our long trip hauler.
These news are the first time I’m really considering that we may be using the Rivian for family trips. Awesome!
