Heated windscrepens are very common in the UK owing to how misty it can be. They’re more often for defogging than defrosting. My 1990 Range Rover had a heated front windshield and it was awesome, even at 20 years old. I wish the R1T/S had it, the EDV does.
Rivian has cut so many features out for production. Tesla model 3 windshields have heater around the upper camera to keep it clear in the winter. The tailgate has been nerfed, outlets, auto tinting glass roof, material cheapness, fit and finish issues growing. Ehh I am also a grumpy May 2018 max pack R1T pre-order still waiting...so who knowsIf the EDV has it… come on Rivian! Give the Riviots what we want! There are dozens of us! Dozens! (AD reference).
Our model y has this as well and, while I’m sure implementation is different/Rivian’s might be more effective, our MY heater element for the wipers do nothing for addressing the challenges with snow/ice accumulation while driving requiring us to full blast the windshield with heated air via our HVAC. The sprinter’s heated windshield is sooooo nice. Can’t wait to take it up to the mtn once the upfit is done. The R1T has a heated area by where the wipers park. The Munro tear down video shows the electrical for it.
Within a week of my delivery I experienced a sizable stone chip in my windshield. Since the R1T was so new, no glass shop had it listed in their computer so they refused to work on it. My last resort was a little mom & pop glass repair shop that used a jewelers loupe to inspect the glass looking for a metal mesh. They said they can’t repair glass with embedded wires. Their conclusion was “no mesh” so they repaired the glass. The sprinter’s heated windshield is sooooo nice.
Try it without one. I had a Model X with and a Model X without at the same time. We always thought it did not much until we had to deal with the one without. Our model y has this as well and, while I’m sure implementation is different/Rivian’s might be more effective, our MY heater element for the wipers do nothing for addressing the challenges with snow/ice accumulation while driving requiring us to full blast the windshield with heated air via our HVAC. That is detailed info on that watchI thought it was kind of gimmicky. Until this:

Reading the manual.....You may have done this but be sure to press defrost not defog, it’s two presses of the button it turns from blue to red and it’s intense.
I wonder if these are weirdly tied to rear-defrost like the side view mirror heating. I suppose I could try to see if they warm up when front defrost is on.Rivian has this. I don’t know how well they work.

I repaired a chip in my Range Rover windshield with one of the DIY epoxy injector kits. The section that was damaged would no longer defrost but that was it. About a 1/2” width running vertically through the windshield where the wires were no longer conductive. So I’m left wondering, on vehicles with heated glass must you replace the entire windshield when you get a stone chip or can it be repaired?
