Yes, and ID4 clog all the EA stations. It rewards bad behavior. I would rather we all pay for fast charging and have chargers available when I need them.
This has not been my experience. How does it reward bad behavior? They charge if you are there more than 1/2 hour and you get the same grace period as any other EV. When we charge her car, we move as soon as it’s charged. I don’t see a reward for bad behavior in this scenario. Which behavior?

Glad to hear they will begin inviting reservation holders to configure soon. They probably want to understand the demand between Quad and Dual motor now that more info is out on dual motor.
Soon means absolutely nothing. Just trying to keep people hanging on.

Unplug after 29 minutes and replug for more free charging. I’m sure you don’t do this, but others do.

Based on everything else, I’ll go out on a limb and say they will be following the Tesla model for these features/options/pricing.

The difference is the other manufacturers disclosed those paid options / add-ons BEFORE you purchased the vehicle. They didn't sell vehicles with undefined options and start charging a-la-carte for features. These are features, not options. If they start charging for Gear Guard, when everyone would agree that was an included feature of the vehicle, would you not be upset?
It was said we are in a membership beta. I agree the list was vague at best, and things like gear guard are and should be included at N/C. However new stuff like new features of Drivers + are on the table as they never promised anything above adaptive cruise and lane keep assist, only that the tech for more is installed. Other features like Dash Cam can build on top of existing hardware, but no guarantee or obligation to give for no charge. Almost all of us (self included) jumped into the deep end of the pool with Rivian with our eyes half open. We spent the most amount of time and effort asking when are we getting our new truck, not what are we getting and how long does the free ride last?

I have owned/leased over 50 vehicles personally, and sold and leased thousands of vehicles to consumers. Never has someone asked me how long does the trial last and what drops out when it is over? How much if I want to keep those feature, can I pay a one time lifetime fee? I am not surprised or discouraged by this announcement, but I do agree clarity has not been Rivians best attribute. I however cut some slack here as ramping up a brand new company has got to be a nightmare from hell, not going bankrupt like Fisker, Lordstown, and flat out miracle.

Best advise is people keep voicing what they believe should be a lifetime installed feature(s) to Rivian. The more unification of members/owners voices, the stronger the opportunity for success.

Is that really bad behavior though? If they're doing it, that is because they're actively charging. They are simply unplugging briefly to avoid getting charged. But if it wasn't free at all, they would just let it sit and charge up to the desired level anyway, no?

What I hate is completely free chargers. We have a few around our house and there are people who work near those locations and just leave the car plugged in and sitting all day.

I'm surprised they didn't just wait 11 more days - until January 16th - to send this out so they could include details.
seriously. based on this forum, i dont think anyone cared about Membership for a long time. thanks Rivian for bringing it to top of mind.

Current navigation works without the truck being connected but it's a lot slower to process a route than when it's connected. I expect it'll still function without a data connection, but you're not going to get the live updates, traffic information, nor charger status. Rivian might still give that stuff away for free if you're connecting the vehicle to a wifi hotspot on your phone, but I wouldn't expect that.
ok thats good to know basic nav works. dont really care if its slow to process the route but once its set i expect it to work properly. as long as it does, then id be satisfied with the map. google maps, apple map, waze, ABRP is way better for traffic, live updates and chargers anyhow.

Non-Rivians can't charge at all on RAN at the moment. They can only use the Level 2 Waypoint network right now.
Thanks. I didn't know that ... because the nearest RAN is 800 miles from me ...

One major difference is that any other car allows carplay. Or even a usb audio connection to the vehicle. Rivian is quite literally forcing us to pay them or we go back to the stone age.
You’re telling me there’s only bluetooth audio or using the streaming via Spotify & no actual hardwire for you phone audio? Who made that design decision.

Nope...this is exactly why these ID.4 people keep clogging chargers by going to 100%. There's just no need for the vast majority of users and it takes forever. When it's a limited resource, don't hog the damn thing when you don't need it. It's not like there's another station around the block in most cases. Unplug at 80% unless you really need more to get to the next station. These days it's called common courtesy. And when charging is free, people don't give AF and just hang out longer than necessary.

Another thing many people are glossing over is that going from Bundled to a-la-carte is a huge difference. When it was a broad bundled membership, you can justify over-paying for basic features like live maps or Spotify because the membership also includes more expensive and seldom used features like off-road vehicle extraction, roadside assistance, and free RAN charging. The cost of the more expensive and lesser used features (off-road extraction services) was basically being subsidized by everything else.

Now that everything is a-la-carte, we will be forced to pay for extremely basic features that most people never really comprehended they had to pay for. AND the more expensive features of Membership will now likely be much more expensive since they are no longer being subsidized/offset by the membership as a whole.

I don't see how can they do this without being explicit on what the features were/are and what the pricing is/was. They are making this decision before ever telling us that information for a reason.

Also, their basic features that they will now charge for better be up to or exceeding the competition. Otherwise, why pay? Oh yeah, because they don't allow CarPlay.
This exactly.
