Do you mean at the top to hold the floor up? if so, Two magnets.
That's the old tub.

Something isn't adding up. I don't know enough about auto manufacturing and VIN assignment to say what happened... Was your vehicle held back and the VIN re-issued? (seems unlikely?). Was old component inventory released into the production line? Were defective/unsaleable vehicles parted out and parts reused? I don't know.

It's possible, I guess, that they've reverted to the original tub... But absent additional evidence, I think it's more likely yours may be a one-off.

Regardless the reason, enjoy your BETTER frunk tub, imo.

Weird, the new tub designs were 1 magnet and no 12V.. wonder if they just had some extra tubs they were trying to use up instead of taking storage space. In any case thats lucky.
Or they realized the headache associated with trying to track who has which tub, maintain an inventory to service both, and deal with customer complaints...just put the $0.25 12v outlet back in.

We can only hope so. Maybe that's why they left the harness for it even in trucks without the 12V.
Can you direct me to more info on this
How to tap into it etc
Thx

Eh, mine did not have it. There's a thread on this (12v in the title).

Rivian R1T R1S 12 volt frunk power outlet is back! > in my just-delivered 2023 R1T (mid 18000 VIN) 20221222_161511

The only logical explanation (if it's really back and not just a few) has to be there was a supply chain issue last year that has been resolved. It's such a cheap part that I cant imagine them cutting it for cost. And if there was some issue with having it, why bring it back.
Or it was Monday after a weekend of pub crawling!

I have confirmed the outlet works. And here is a picture for those with trust issues (although maybe it's a fake?)

I just picked up my 2023 mid 18000 vin R1T and to my surprise it has a 12 volt DC outlet in the frunk! I said to the service guy "I thought they removed these months ago?" and he replied "yep, they did. you must have an older build." I pointed out the 2023 on the sticker and the Vin and he repsonded with "oh wow, looks like it's back." While I don't know if mine was a fluke or not, I certainly have it on a 2023 and I'm very happy about it.

Update:

I have confirmed the outlet works. And here is a picture for those with trust issues.

Died of old age during the wait
the top right of the door sticker says "01/23" so I assume that’s the build date
My tb delivered R1S is from January, I think, so hoping I get one. Would be great to keep boots warm on the way to the slopes.

Agreed re: supply chain. Perhaps the plug was not available? I also agree with you that it does not make sense to delete it for the reason Tony claimed. A deletion could well cost more in admin, quality (!) etc. for low quantity vehicles such as this.

Or perhaps a different vendor won the contract for a second batch and botched the spec. Rivian couldn't reject the bad tubs without delaying production in the 3rd/4th quarter.

The second vendor theory only makes sense if the 12v frunk is indeed back. We'll need to see more vehicles checked.

If it is, then all of us that have vehicles with it removed should be able to get the couple of parts it takes to install it from Rivian.
