I don't see 22%. The max pack on AT improves 35 miles, from 300 to 335
You're absolutely right. I just don't think many here are looking at the Dual Motor range increase alone.

It's definitely confusing to run through all these options. Dual Motor + Large pack for pre 3/1 is $1500 less for 26 more miles, slower acceleration, and diminished off-road capability.

Probably best all us early preorders just make a final decision, get the vehicle we want at this relatively incredible pricing, and let Rivian move towards profitability with updated pricing for newer customers.

Carrera GT’s have been appreciating in value. One of the best cars that Porsche ever built.

In case anyone was wondering about the R1S Max Pack options, from my guide:

We currently don't have a timeline on pricing or availability of Dual Motor Max Pack R1S being added to the configurator, but we're working on getting it added ASAP since it's in such high demand!

Wow. Buyers who choose the Max Pack will be paying a hefty premium.

I noticed the 260+ mile “standard” pack wasn’t listed.

I went to the website and the “Performance“ Dual Motor will run you $5,000. Its only 1-second faster than the Dual Motor. I don’t see a lot of buyers checking this option box. It’s a super expensive option for a minimal performance gain.
Early pricing gave me the Performance Dual AWD Motor at 2.5k.

Looks like I'll be sticking with the one and only large-pack configuration that will have any sort of tax benefit... Silver, dual-motor, large pack, 21" road.
This shall henceforth be known as the "IRS Edition."
Is the limit for the tax credit still guaranteed 80k or less?

My guess right now is for Rivian to phase out the Large pack. It'll be too difficult to maintain two designs with two battery suppliers for only a small difference in range. I'll bet their in-house gigafactory will focus on the max pack LFP chemistry then design a regular and max pack around that and part ways with the large pack cell supplier.

If they keep the quad motor option long term it'll probably also be an all new in-house design like the dual. I could also easily see the quad motors being sunsetted eventually as well.

Quad/Large config has a year or two left in the lifecycle is my prediction

Dual Motor, Max Batter, 20" AT wheels: Range 335

335 - 274 = 61
61/274 = 22%

That’s correct. One must compare dual motors with max pack to dual motors without max pack. Max pack gives you an increase of only 11%. It’s so tiny I don’t think they’re adding a Taycan-like second gear after all. That would have been rad.

Large Pack + Dual Motor + AT = 300 miles
Max Pack + Dual Motor + AT = 335 miles

Max Pack alone between these configurations adds 35 miles.

Your original comparison was based on:

Large Pack + Quad + AT

So two factors at play:

Large Pack vs Max Pack
Dual Motor vs Quad Motor

Both comparisons are valid, but the range increase is due to both the Dual motor and Max pack, not just Max pack alone.

Has Rivian disclosed that the max pack will be LFP? LFP energy density is usually much worse. It’s all around much worse, actually, except for cost.

In my opinion, going from Quad Large to Dual Max is worthwhile - 20% is significant.

Are most not able to eek out ~300 miles w/their quad running 20" wheels, not in the winter of course...

Yes I would like to know if it is LFP as well. Less energy dense but can take 100% charging and deeper discharge as well.
