In what world are these types of paint issues acceptable on new R1S?

Been chatting with service for a week now about these issues. For the past few days it seemed like they were exploring several different options from repair to replacement, but today they called to setup a service center appointment for this week. I asked about the potential for replacement, and they said they would explore that route. A few minutes later they called back saying it was not an option. I asked exactly what the repair plan looks like and why they want it at the SC because I know Rivian doesn’t do paint work in-house, and the body shop they work with is much closer to home. Apparently they want to review the concerns in person before making all of these decisions. The SC is an hour away, so I’m not exactly thrilled with this. I’ve been providing very detailed photos and descriptions of the issues, so I find it tough to believe they don’t have enough context to determine the proper path forward.

You shouldn’t be happy about it at all. I wouldn’t be either. But if you want resolution one way or another I think it’s fair for them to ask to have access to it. Your photos are great but seeing it in person they might even decide that replacement is an option again. All around it’s just a shitty situation and there’s no way to get through without more inconvenience.

Added some more photos. Definitely gonna ask for a replacement.
I can't believe you accepted delivery. I would not have signed anything that was that absurd. I'm definitely planning my wife's delivery at the SC. Mine was great, but was a Tuesday in March ?

I wouldn’t have had I noticed all of these in the narrow window provided. I say it took 5 minutes, but that was from the time I noticed the first issue, which unfortunately happened after the delivery guide left. It was also my first time seeing an R1S in person, so I was looking at it very high-level and missed a lot of these on first blush. I’ll know better next time (if there ever is a next time after this one).

Added even more photos. This evening we went through the work order line-by-line over the phone to make sure everything was captured. They had missed a couple of things, but as I was going through it on the truck itself I continued to find more issues. Not pictured are two very clear but hard to photograph oil-canning issues on both passenger-side doors.

At about line 10 in the order is where the service rep saw the pics of the awful paint issues around the taillights which seemed to stun him. I reiterated just how terrible this thing is, and I cannot believe A) they think this is all fixable within reason and B) how no one along the assembly line or the SC raised any concerns here.

Just boggles the mind how this many obvious issues on a single VIN wouldn’t raise concerns before hitting a customer’s hands.

A lot, if not all, of that painted caulking, is normal. Especially the stuff that you purposely lifted trim out of the way to see.

There are issues there, yes, but you are losing credibility with a lot of your complaints.

Just one example, the stuff around the top of the roofline that was taken with the rear hatch open, is completely normal. You will find that on every vehicle with it's hatch open.
Every spot I pulled trim out of the way was purely to get a better view of the extent of the issue. You can absolutely see these globs of paint without lifting any panels out of the way.

Also, those panels are not fastened or adhered to the surface, meaning the lack of a flat paint surface is causing them to not lay flat, further exposing the issues.

Also, if this is totally normal you’re going to need to explain to me why my previous two R1Ts had nothing remotely like this.

Feel free to point me to the specific photos I posted you think call into question my credibility.

What is your VIN#? Is your R1S a 2022 or 2023?

Dang looks like something caused the paint to be a bit soft when it was going down the line.

I went back and looked at your photos a second time before commenting. Honestly, I’d return it. Even putting aside the multiple concerns in less visible areas, this brand new $80,000 truck is going to need paint repair in multiple visible areas, the door fit is bad, and what caused that scrape in that interior plastic part? My first new car, a 1982 Honda Civic, had much better paint at delivery than your new Rivian.
