Anyone hear from their Rivian Guide?

I am looking forward to the Guides reaching out to people, but I am not surprised that it hasn’t happened.

I assume they can’t even start until they have all of their ducks in a row.

For instance, here are my first three questions

1. What is the exact EPA range?
2. When can I see all of the colors?
3. When can I test drive one?

Pretty simple questions that will piss a lot of people off when the Guides say “we will know more soon.”

Some of these answers are beyond Rivian’s. Control. If they don’t have the EPA range they can’t give it. If they haven’t received permits from the cities they are sending their test drive circus to, their hands are tied until they do.

For all we know, Guides may be chomping at the bit to call us, but other forces outside of Rivian are holding them up.

You touch on something that I have thought about in regard to test drives. It won't be as useful an experience to me if they hold it in a downtown setting vs. having it where you can put it through its paces in an "adventure" setting which is the route I am hoping they go.

Like maybe in Bend?

I have to agree, they are not only being trained on all of the features, operation, and options on the vehicle.

They also are being trained to facilitate helping with the purchase process, insurance, delivery, scheduling maintenance, etc.

So, in order for them to be trained on features, operations and options, those all have to be defined by now. Meaning they could publish much more detailed info on the web site.

That explains why we haven't been contacted' "those all have to be defined". Since they aren't the guides cannot be trained on them, so they can't contact us. Nor can those undefined things be put on the website.

Just stirring the pot while (im)patiently waiting.

Another example here - a 25 minute long largely technical interview of Darren Palmer (BEV GM for Ford) by the guys at Electrek a few days after launch.

• Home charging (3-10 days if you turn off the air con, 9.6 kw total)
• L3 Charging (specifically noting there is a + after 150kw)
• Confirmation that the F150 will be plug and charge like the Mustang
• Confirming that the ATM charger will be included with larger battery
• Confirming that the ATM charger has the ability to be installed at your home, but bill back the fleet operator

The difference in approach and information sharing is striking.

I disagree that this has been out of Rivian's control. It would only indicate a lack of good planning on their part, or lack of executing the plan. I am sure they know good estimates of what it takes to get the EPA rating, as well as having dealt with permitting processes for all these years building out their factory. Do those things involve government bureaucracy and red tape? Yes. But that should all be expected in the planning stages.

At any rate, off to test drive a Mach E today. Will get to see and test out all the features. The dealership does not have the exact model I am interested in, but maybe I will order one after the test drive.

How disappointing would it be if the EPA is 270? There is no way Rivian will be okay with that.
If they don't know the EPA yet, would they expect us to order the R1T next week?

Either there is a delay or this week will be an avalanche of information.

Well, MACH E and Bolt EUV got their EPA ratings during Covid.

In my state, Arizona, they need to get a dealers license in order to sell more than 15 cars, so that is mostly online and they should have it already, if not that is a huge fail. Tesla has an Arizona dealers license and they have certainly been providing test drives during the past year.

Also in Arizona, new house building has been booming all during Covid, plenty of permits and inspections going on. I am sure permits and inspections did not fully shut down during Covid in any state.

I also attended every Arizona Coyotes hockey game this last season, all during Covid.

I’ve have attended 2 Tesla Demo days in the past 3 months. How is Tesla able to pull these off with “Covid” and yet it’s Rivian’s #1 reason they give as why they have not had any yet.

Not to take this into a ditch potentially, but isn’t Elon a Covid denier (or something close to it) which may lead them to be a bit more out there with respect to Covid in general? I have no idea what RJ’s view is, but guessing a bit more cautious. Those two different mindsets at the top may dictate there being more Tesla events and no Rivian yet.
