Tesla owners will be happy to hear there are EV owners don't want to use their network.. more stalls available for them too!

Everyone's happy now!!
To be clear I didn't say I didn't want to or wouldn't use it, I just meant I wouldn't choose it over a cheaper option down the street.

I presume this means Polestar will migrate as well. Low volume in the US, but another automaker nonetheless.

I had my first experience with EA yesterday. Not horrible, but not great. One stall was down (4 others available). At another station the card reader wasn’t working so I had to use the app, hardest part there was figuring out which stall I was in so I could enable it (very frustrating). Overall the most annoying part of the experience was figuring out how to park so the cord would reach my port.

Superchargers are gonna be hella crowded starting 2024!! Plus some vehicles are going to take 2 spots due to port placement.

Understood, and you noticed I didn't say you are one of the "morally opposed" forum members who would likely rather get a flatbed home than use Elon's network.
If EA can get their $hit together and offer the same reliability that the SC network has... Tesla owners would have nothing to worry about.

While I think VW will be one of the last, I don't really think they care about EA that much. EA was an obligation to the US government over their diesel cheat scandal. They care about selling cars. Going to needs NACS + Tesla SC access to sell cars in the near future. They will move to NAC in less than a year is my bet.
I hope you're right. I'm waiting to order Porsche ev718 when available, unless something better comes along. Wish Arturo is fully electric rather than hybrid...

Two comments about your experience.

1. I find that the EA widget added to my Apple Wallet is the easiest way, just open and tap and your done.
2. Must have been an older station, the new ones have super long cables. They will easily reach 3 corners of the vehicle

Don't forget that many non SC spots are adding NCSA too. It won't be as bad as your imagining it.

I know people say that but in my experience EA stations have been pretty reliable but probably depends on where you are and how new the stations are.

Yeah, not really morally apposed to Tesla or Elon. It will be pretty fun to watch him get beat up by Zuckerberg though.

Great. More charging spots available for us cheapskates that don't want to give Elon a premium for his fancy electrons.
And therein lies the tale...
Whether they like it or not, EA has just become a discount fuel provider (much like the Murphy stations that share space on the Walmart parking lots). In 2024 they will unceremoniously flip from being a premium provider with a captive market to a discount provider with an inferior offering. If they cut costs to be profitable they will make all the bad things worse. If they increase spending to fix the issues, they will be trying to pay for it with discounted margins. So it goes.

As if. EA only dispenses Top-Tier electrons.

Personally I am only going to use the SC network if they dispense positrons... on second thought that might cause a fire..

In the 70s and 80s I did a lot of traveling in Baja with my parents. Most towns only had one gas station and it was always a crap shoot if they had gas. It was usually filled with rust though. Sometimes they had gas but no power to run the pump so we'd pay a kid a few pesos to crank the pump manually after taking the side cover off. Sometimes we just had to keep driving to the next town and hope. Sometimes we had to wait for a delivery. Sometimes we bought gas from a rancher. Cheaper than USA gas though.

This is EA today.

Thanks for the tip! The one with short cables was at EA in Troutdale. Another patron there said EA has been talking about upgrading it for over a year. Must not be high on their list since there’s another nearby in Sandy.

If people thought the lines at Tesla chargers were bad before, just give it 6 months.
