Thanks for the tip! The one with short cables was at EA in Troutdale. Another patron there said EA has been talking about upgrading it for over a year. Must not be high on their list since there’s another nearby in Sandy.
Yeah Sandy has the newer stations as does Hood River. For a while they were prioritizing replacing old stations (my impression) but now they seem to have swung to adding new stations. For example the one they are adding on Cornelius Pass in Hillsboro at the Fred Meyer. Now if they could get to work on the coming soon locations in Bozeman MT and Chamberlain SD that would be a big help to my summer road trip plans, Wausau Wi would be nice too.

100%. I've never driven a tesla and have never been to an SC, but I for sure would prefer to pay more for reliability. I have an EA membership. I wont in 2024 regardless of the price difference. EA is fine, but not something i'd consider "reliable."

*assuming non-Tesla cars will have a good SC experiences like Tesla cars do
I just went on a 650mi + road trip, and EA is garbage. Don’t have enough stalls, some are chronically broken, no thank you!

Once those Superchargers open, I’ll NEVER use a EA charger again. It was such a horrible experience.

The best EA experience I had was when I was doing a pretty deep charge (~30% with a goal to get to 100%) on a trip and the charger crashed at about 90%. I tried to restart the charge but the screen was frozen and for more than 24 hours when I went into the EA app it said i was still there charging... Was a bit worried that I'd get like a 4 figure bill eventually so I kept an eye on it. However, it never charged me :) So their shitty network saved me like $40. Never had a Chevron do that after filling up 10 gallons. I call that a win.

Well *I* just went on a 4000 mile road trip, and for the most part I used EA chargers. There were some locations where there were no EA charger and I had to use EVGo, ChargePoint or Francis. EA was the best of them. While the CCS network could be better, it didn't significantly impact my trip because I planned ahead of time. If I had access to superchargers, I would have had to do less planning because I'd have twice as many places to charge, but I'd also end up paying a lot more for charging.

I'm all for opening the superchargers up to everyone, but be aware that having an "NACS" port is not a necessary or sufficient condition for that to happen. Tesla has long had the ability to provide CCS cables and/or adapters so that others could use their supercharger network, but they haven't done that. It seems to me that Tesla wants to support CCS only in the way that provides as much revenue to Tesla as possible - that means requiring manufactures like Rivian to pay for access.

Pretty much why this all feels like a last ditch effort by Tesla to have some kind of control over the EV market and why I hate it happening before they give up their IP on the connector.
Pay the man!

100% agree. I went on a 2200 mile trip and almost all EA. Wouldn’t have made it if it wasn’t for them. Even my teenage daughter was happy when the next charger stops were EA because the others are so bad.

I was an early-ish Tesla Model 3 lessor and one of the nice things (in my limited experience) about the Tesla SCs was that even if you had to wait, everyone with a Tesla was still giddy about it, and it felt like an exclusive EV "community" where everyone politely waited their turn. With a massive increase in users, however, I wonder how the heck SC stations are going to manage the demand, especially in locations (like crowded parking lots) where there is no room to queue. I suspect this will make for a much less pleasant experience, especially given the size of R1Ts, R1Ss, F-150 Lightenings relative to M3s and MSs.

Yea even gas stations have issues and anxiety and those have queues. Parking spaces can be quite an adventure. Now imagine the parking lot only has 4 spaces and you need to wait in this line.
