After this last update, when I walk up to my truck in the morning I hear a loud weed eater sounding noise I assume is a compressor for AC? In 9 months of owning my R1T, I’ve never heard this but now every morning.
Anyone else?

Yup, that's the new normal...from Normal.

Heating and cooling:
  • Quickened response to hot ambient conditions and stabilized operation at low-mid ambient conditions.

Assuming this line of the OTA is realted...

Most likely. My truck is in a garage and at 7:30am the cabin temp is around 70-72 with the AC set on Auto at 69. Hardly seems necessary to go balls to the wall on the compressor as I walk up to it.

I'll try manually turning AC off when I get out of the truck and see if I get the same when I walk up later.

Yep, same problem. Started with 2023.22.0. Contacting Rivian support is useless other than another data point of the problem. Their only response: make a service appointment, which is a 4 month wait. Which won’t solve the problem anyway. It needs a software update to fix the new “normal” to go back to the old normal. It wasn’t broken.

It is the most annoying “fix” I’ve seen in 10 months of updates. The internal testing bar is low before a release is sent. We are the beta testers. The problem is there’s no going back once you install.

Rivian will tell you it’s normal and working as designed.

the noise / vibration / harshness needs some sort of fix / campaign.

An acoustic cover over the compressor plus some better mounting points with rubber isolation along with a software fix to slowly ramp it up will help a lot.

Also a better ambient temperature sensor that doesn’t read 10 degrees higher because of the location of the sensor and dark paint.

@screamingkarts has created a document to help collect affected VINS with AC N/V/H issues. We will use this to get information back to Rivian. I have already sent this link in with my service ticket and other forum members are in close contact with executives on this issue. Please add you car to this form.

I have experienced the same issue. I submitted a service request, and got an appointment for next Friday. My efficiency went down to 1.05 for the “Last 15 minutes” two days ago, and plummeted from 2.4 to 1.5 yesterday when I went to get lunch. I don’t know if that played into a quicker service appointment (noise + efficiency hit), but I had pictures and video to send them.

I do think it ramps more quickly after the recent OTA update, but I don't think this is all bad.

I live in the Southeast, and the forecast high today is 99 with 72% humidity. My R1S will be heat soaked when I get in it to go home, and I appreciate the HVAC cranked to 11 in these conditions.

My Tesla Model S is quieter, but I often wished for more fan in the summer. It lives in Texas with my daughter now, and she has no complaints.

We have several other ICE vehicles in the extended family, and I drove one of our "beaters" Tuesday, a 2001 Honda Odyssey. When I got in the van to go home (with the AC set to "auto, 70 degrees" I literally thought someone had stolen the catalytic converter. It was too loud to carry on a normal conversation. I've been driving the Rivian, and simply forgot how loud this minivan, which I've driven off and on for more than 20 years, was at full blast.

I've had BMWs with different "auto" settings that varied how aggressively they sought and maintained the set temp--I always thought that was a great feature vs. fully "auto."

They may want to make this its own thread. I would fill out but R1T is at the SC and they initiated the update on Monday. Hopefully will know the results next week.

Ive had a '22 loaner for 2 weeks now, zero issues until I installed the new update a couple days ago...now I hear the weed whacker sound and feel the vibration in the pedal/floor. 100% started immediately after the update.

Not sure you need to collect VINs in the survey. I believe the current behavior is for all VINs with the 22 update.

I had zero ramp, no noise, prior to .22 release. Now it's a screaming banshee. YMMV.
