Hi, I’m Bill and I sometimes build things. For the past few months I’ve been making manual tonneau covers for the R1T. First, I want to throw out a huge thank you to everyone that’s supported this endeavor. Initially I figured I’d make like 5 of these things, and I’ve been absolutely amazed by the response. I’m just a guy in my workshop, so I’ve also been very grateful for the patience everyone has had. In between batches of tonneau covers, I’ve been working on a few other things I hope to share…s00n. I’m loving my Rivian and I’ve really enjoyed being part of the community that’s sprouted around them. Keep an eye out here and at interrobang.store for what’s been cooking.

I'm curious what you're going to make with the scrap ends from those fence panels....

Almost enough to make a pet platform....hmmm.....
Well there’s an idea. I was stockpiling them with the intention of using them for a gear tunnel shuttle, but it didn’t really work. Ended up filling up my bed and heading to the scrap yard. But they’re piling up again, so I’ll have to give this some thought.

Awesome work! Can I put in a request for a good-looking sun shade for the R1S greenhouse? ?

Nice work! Realistically, how rain proof is it? Generally good? Eh? Not really?

Just tint the glass with a high-quality IR tint. It makes a world of difference, and is superior to a clumsy sunshade.

I am very interested in what Bill is cooking up for the unused, manual tonneau compartment. Looks promising!

I do plan to give more tint a try. The temps here in Austin next week will be 106-108. If there was a decent looking sunshade, I'd probably make it a near-permanent install during summer months. When it's THAT hot, and your car sits outside all day, even tint gets overpowered. Our Pacifica has the tint you're recommending, and we still close the sunroof shades for relief.

That said, I feel like a goddamn genius for choosing Ocean Coast. It makes a world of difference.

Maybe someone else with one can offer their experiences, but I’m happy with it. The aluminum with its tongue and groove is pretty solid in keeping the elements out from the majority of the bed. The edges with the tracks… there can be some leaks. It’s very secure and sturdy, but a cover that sits above the trim and doesn’t use the factory tracks will likely perform better with rain.

The void drawer is really shaping up. There’s no permanent modifications required and can be installed in about 15 minutes. I’m still debating about a lock. I don’t see a way to lock it up without drilling an extra hole in the back panel. I just need to find the right sized bolts for the drawer slides because currently they catch a little. Otherwise it’s pretty slick, you tilt the panel down and the drawer slides out with it. There’s not a ton of space due to the giant top bracket Rivian used, but it’s plenty to hold my ratchet straps and whatnot. There’s only about 3.5-4” of clearance, but it’s great to reclaim that unused space. Next thing to figure out is a tonneau panel that lifts up so it can be accessed without removing the cover.

That sounds awesome, Bill! I can imagine that reclaiming that space, however small, feels great. Like you mentioned, even if it can only fit some ratchet straps and some gloves, it's a win.

A lifting tonneau would be next-level, too. I'm wishing you luck and will stay tuned for updates. Thank you for your contributions to the community!

Woah, that's amazing. I've been holding out on a cab-side rack because I was hoping someone would come up with a solution to the dead space since I'd rather have that. Any pics?
