So frustrated about no spare

I had to have my windshield replaced 3 weeks ago, and spoke to my local service center about getting a matching extra AT Bright wheel and tire. They gave me a quote said it would be two weeks and they could send someone out with it. So, 3 weeks later I make a call asking what is going on, and of course I can't actually contact my local service center, so I get a call back from someone overseeing national service centers saying it is totally impossible for me to get a wheel and tire. I am so pissed about this runaround! I just know I'm going to be on a trail somewhere and get a flat and be totally screwed because Rivian has been giving me this runaround. I feel like the old lady in the old school discount tire commercials tossing a tire through the front window.

You are spot-on right being very frustrated for good reason. This situation would typically be unfathomable yet its real.

my local SC mgr also told me during pickup of my R1S that the whole spare tire situation would be resolved “very soon”.

there’s that cryptic Rivianese word: s-O—-O-n

Same...can't be very adventurous with my adventure vehicle until I get one. Also gotta love that there was supposed to be a bit towing update in time for your summer fun....that likely won't come until after people have completed their summer vacations.

Understood and I’m in the same boat, but for an R1S compact spare. At least for an R1T you can cobble together a full size spare that works.

I’ve tried multiple ways to purchase just a spare (SC, guide, chat, phone, used). No way they are selling a spare without the kit. It has to meet spec and fit in the vehicle with the OEM securing hardware.

So many vehicles are delivered without spare these days....

I recall reading here that Ram 1500 wheel lug pattern and offset matches the R1 size. Why not just get a cheap steel wheel and mount the AT tires as an interim solution.

Personally, I do not do 5 wheel rotation so as a spare, that solution would work permanently just fine for me. Unfortunately, my order is for R1S so a full sized spare is out of practical solution for me. Still compact inflatable is not available either though...

You can buy a spare here. They sell full size spares for a lot fo EVs.

The spike in frustration for me comes from already having “made a deal” with my SC to get a spare and I was just waiting for them to uphold their side of the bargain. I literally shook the guy’s hand at the service center and thanked him profusely for making that happen. It did not happen.

I'm conflicted, I feel like there is a good chance i'd end up with 3 wheels in my possession right about the time the official spares can be bought. Don't want to be left holding the bag on that much cheddar... but of course the risk of my family and I getting stranded on a trail somewhere in the mountains tends to make me want to go for it. Anyone else in CO want to go in on a 20" AT Bright group order?

it is frustrating.

on one hand i get it because they need to have as many wheels available as possible to build new vehicles and in the long run, that helps all of us if Rivian is still in business.

on the other hand, its annoying that some folks have been able to get spares through a SC but its completely random and based on luck. and that they sell wheels in sets of 4 (though i heard thats hard to get as well), but not single spares.

either have it all or nothing.

i wouldnt let this necessarily keep you from adventuring though. all vehicles come with roadside assistance 24/7. maybe not as fast and easy as putting on a spare but still there nonetheless.

The guy at the SC said the biggest issue wasn't getting the wheels or tires, but the other tire changing components for the spare tire kit. This is the same guy I "made a deal with" so i guess take it with a grain of salt.
