I wanted to add to the information out there for initial build quality review. I didn't have any experience looking at these things, so the other posters' experience really helped me review my car after I received it. Plus wanted to add more R1S information.

Took delivery on 6/30/23 (did they rush it out?) and then left for a work trip for 2 weeks so couldn't check it over closely until I got back. Overall the build quality isn't bad I think? You tell me. But there are A LOT of problems in my car nevertheless. I've attached some pictures to help others look for things when they get their cars

1. Paint chips and scratches. I found some into metal chips and a huge scratch on the seam between the fender and surrounding panels. This led me to believe that this was done during production. There was also a chip and deep scratch on the roof of my back passenger side roof (check the roofs).

Sorry this is a poor quality picture.

2. Rubber seals. I had a similar problem on the passenger side door as another poster. The rubber casing on the door did not slip properly under the surrounding panel and so gets lifted up when the door closes. Only rubber seal issue I found.

3. Misalignment of panels. A lot of small stuff. As expected, lots of plastic panels lifting up from the metal panels. The two big ones I noticed are between the two doors on the driver side (perhaps the cause of making my drivers-side back door feel harder to close?) and the top panel on the front doors. I can post more misalignment pictures in other spots if anyone is interested, but I think those are the two big ones.

not sure if these are normal:

4. Air-conditioning. Yes my AC pump is loud when I first turn on the car in this 100 degrees heat. It does shake the gas paddle a bit. Don't think it's as loud as some of the videos I've seen. Once the cabin temperature comes down, the wine stops.

5. Cabin. The build quality inside is top notch just like everyone continues to say. The only thing I noted was there was a dent on the driver-side pillar speaker. Not a big deal, probably could've fixed that myself if they sent me the part.

I submitted tickets and scheduled for August 30th. It's a long wait. I wanted to get PPF on my car, but can't really get it without the paint being fixed. Real bummer.

All normal and minor.

They will fix it all back up to make it look much better.

Just create a ticket and post all these picture and put some captions or description of each issue.

you get 12 months and 12,000 miles for all these cosmetic adjustments

I appreciate everyone's input on the issues. I agree, nothing to serious to me. Hopefully they will fix it up without too much effort.

This is not one I picked from the Shop FYI.

Yup, all "Normal" (Illinois). Be careful though...if its relatively minor and you can live with it, leave it be...They generally can fix a few things but make something else worse.

Interesting consideration. The deep pain chips bother me because it will no doubt start to rust. The rubber seal just needs fixing because it is permanently bent. I don't think any of my panel alignment issues are bad enough to cause water leaking (knock on wood). I will see what they say when I arrive for my service issue. I appreciate the heads up.

Those are all super minor compared to the stuff I’ve got. I’m still on the fence about keeping the car or not. Waiting for my service appointment in August to see what they can fix before making that determination. I’ve already put over 3,500 miles on it in 33 days of ownership.

Did you take delivery of another R1S after rejecting your initial one?

Looks like mine has the rear window trim sticking out like your initial R1S had. I thought that was part of the design tbh because I see it on both sides. Is that supposed to be flush?

Yes I did. I rejected the first one and was then put back in the shop and found another launch edition R1S and took delivery. Unfortunately the second one also has its fair share of issues, but nothing remotely close to the first one. The rear window trim does still stick out a bit, but nowhere near as much as the first one did.

Rather have cosmetic stuff than engine issues to be honest. I got 10 different things cosmetic to fix on my first service. Just enjoy the car while you are waiting. It is a beast to drive

It is not normal to have large scratches on vehicles - at least in my experience with Toyota, Mazda, BMW and Subaru. I understand we are early adopters but that is not an excuse to accept stuff like this which they should be able to prevent with some care and QC checks.

Nice. I hope you are enjoying yours like I am still. Got pictures of how much it sticks out now?

Agree. These will become rust buckets. The scratches/chips kind of confuse me. Not sure how that happened during assembly.
