Rivian Patent for Rock Rails

Anyone know about this new patent as it was just uploaded (August 1) to the patent website. It is for Rock Rails or I guess for a better word Running boards. Rivian looks to have running boards as an option. Thoughts?

Rock rails to protect the frame rails and door sill panels instead of the plastic pieces that are down there now. Likely don't extend out past the door to step on.

We can only surmise that this could the OEM version of rock sliders but there is no bolt to info.

It is interesting that they don't show any means of attaching to the vehicle. Maybe they're glue on!

There's a patent dispute to be had since someone has already designed sliders for the rivian an the general idea has been in the public domain for decades. It's like Rivian trying to patent the car door. It does say ornamental though.

It's not a utility patent fortunately.

Looks like it was just granted, the application was back in May of 2021. Seems more of a design/style patent than a functional one.

Maybe they were waiting for this before they were added to the gear shop.

This is absolutely spot on. It’s so bad I’m likely to create my own set to avoid the wait.

Or a ton of different size plastic push fasteners. They like those.
