I'm here to vent! I picked up an R1S from the shop on July 5th. Initially, I was pleased with my guide, but unfortunately, they couldn't provide accurate information about vehicle transportation and delivery timelines. The expected delivery date changed from August 10th to the 30th, and now it's projected for the second week of September.

Last week, they couldn't track the vehicle in their tracking system and promised to get back to me, which they didn't. Today, I had a scheduled call with the guide team, and they confirmed that my R1S began its journey from Normal to SJSC by train about a week and a half ago. They mentioned a delivery date around the second week of September. This means there's a 10-week timeline from VIN assignment to delivery if everything goes smoothly. It's disappointing that Rivian is still improving their transportation and communication processes.

It sounds like ours may be on the same train...I was told mine was headed from Normal to the SJ SC on 11-Aug. Crazy that it seems like they're anticipating ~4 weeks for it to make it's way to the SC when I've read reports of others getting theirs shipped from Normal to the west coast in <2 weeks.

Did you pick it up from shop? And when? I don’t know the reason why it was sitting there for more than a month is bit of a concern for me.

I picked mine on 08-Aug, so pretty fast turnaround from selection to shipment. If it does take 4 weeks to get from Normal to the Bay Area, that's an average of only ~80 miles traveled per day (I know it doesn't work like that, but still...the end result is the same)

Dang, that's rough. I picked an R1S on 7/6 and was able to pick up in San Jose on 8/1. On my Monroney sticker it says "truck" for transit option, but I'm not sure why it was truck instead of rail (or whether it was rail anyway). Really do think they have a long way to go on notification/tracking after you've started the purchase process. It should be worth it in the end, car has been great.

My name is Mike, and I have a (car) problem
Not to take away from your frustration, but this scenario is pretty common.

1) Truck is built and ready for delivery on a train
2) Train takes forever to load (+2-3 weeks)
3) Delivery to SC is intermediated by transit yard (+1-2 weeks)
4) Guide really has no way to track the vehicle, so they can’t help
5) Suddenly vehicle shows up at SC and is in final QA (this is when they “find” it again)
6) You’re rushing through payment and pickup scheduling

Congrats on almost having a Rivian! I went through a similar thing a year ago and it was maddening. But soooooo worth the wait.

Yeah, same, but the opposite result. Mine came in two weeks early, and I had to blast through payment and pickup. It's part of the adventure! (?)

I agree that there are a lot of lucky folks where the delivery timelines worked really great for them. It’s just that I am at the receiving end. But none of this will impact the enthusiasm of owning this awesome vehicle. Looking forward to it!

Mine was like 10 days from Illinois to the SJSC and was on a truck. It was June and they were pushing to get the deliveries done though.

Although frustrating, hang in there…you’re almost to delivery day!

As it unfolds, today got a call from the guide team saying the assigned R1S is stuck in normal for the reasons they couldn’t mention. He offered me to take a look at what’s already available near me and found the exact match except the interior and is ready to pick up. Pulled the trigger and signed the contract and paid that extra amount for the forest edge through ach. Counting for the schedule to open up!
One good thing out of all this fiasco is, getting 17xxx instead of 14xxx
GW, 20AT, FE and installing EV Sportline rock sliders

What on earth is going on, Rivian? You contacted me and explained that the assigned vehicle never left the factory, after waiting for 7 weeks! And you proposed an alternative that was already at SJSC. You sold me a configuration I wasn't initially interested in and charged me for it. A delivery was set for this Friday, and I was still excited to bring my R1S home. However, today I received an email stating that my delivery schedule was canceled due to a change in VIN and the status went back to processingk. Seriously????? There was no courtesy call or message from the guide or the service center. Unfortunately, I missed this email as I was at work during the afternoon. I couldn't reach out to clarify the situation. I've scheduled a call with the guide team for tomorrow, let's see what they have to say.
I'm starting to think this system is completely broken and it's really frustrating ?

For reasons they can't mention? Seems a bit melodramatic. What did they do, use it to haul away UFO evidence?

Congrats on your S, regardless. You're gonna love on ramps and passing lanes, haha

I understand your frustration. My original VIN was assigned and allowed me to schedule delivery, turns out the actual vehicle was across the country in California. New shop vehicle selected, and was told 2 weeks to arrive from Normal to my SC back on 8/7. Last night the step opened up to schedule delivery, which I schedule for Saturday. After learning from my first experience, I texted the SC just to confirm before going through updating insurance (and more importantly telling my bank to send payment). They texted me back and cancelled the appointment, saying it's a "glitch" and that the truck hasn't arrived yet and still en-route. Don't even have my car yet and I'm already starting to get annoyed by their whole process.
