6/28 a lady drove from a side street across 3 lanes west bound traffic, into the east bound side, totally ignored moving into the first lane, and the second lane and by the time I realized she wasn't going to turn I moved from the middle to the far lane and she still hit me, thankfully the damage was minor, as I moved about 6-10 feet further away (yes I want a cookie for my reaction time lol)

Since then I have been anxiously waiting to get this sorted out seeing how many body shops are fraudulently increasing claims costs with these stories of $40k - $50k repair bills for a "dent" got me very very worried.

To top if off her insurance is Allstate, who's notorious for not paying, not accepting supplements and generally being poor for service.

8/23 I finally got to drop off my Truck (Dallas Tx) at the Rivian approved body shop, and by 8/24 they had it torn apart and a new quote.

All state said right up front they have to do a general guess at the cost b/c nothing's in the insurance books yet so they have no standards, their quote was $2k, the body shop came in at $4700....yes, only $4700 not $47000 and that was a relief.

I got an email last night from All state saying the agreed to $4200 after discussing it with the body shop, so I'm needing to confirm that the body shop actually is good to go with that amount.

Also about a month ago I paid the body shop to order parts they knew they'd need up front, hopefully this speeds up the process, the body shop guy thought it would take a month once dropped off because of the back and forth with the insurance company.

Just called the body shop, there's a few things they need to finish out with the insurance but they expect it all to be covered, one nice surprise is they did cover the tire, you can see a little rubbing color on the pic above so I made sure to point it out during the video inspection from her insurance. That's awesome b/c I'll get a brand new tire, and I have the spare kit so I will actually end up putting the spare on, so that both rear are new and keep the tire with 20k miles as the spare.

The rest of the parts were ordered with an ETA of 8/31 which is AWESOME.

The body shop prepared me for a month wait, but, if all goes as planned it'll be less than 2 weeks, and then the last part of the process......will it look perfect.

Good lord, this is like the wild west of insurance and auto body repair right now. We are stuck in the middle between terrible insurance companies and shady auto body places trying to milk them for extra cash repairing unique vehicles. Not exactly confidence inspiring!

I will definitely share if I get the breakdown, there are not too many parts to replace, but the following I know for sure

1: tire
2: rear bumper
3: wheel well plastic trim
4: bed cap left side

My guess is yes pdr and paint, I bet it pops right out, and maybe needs some massaging.

When I bought the truck I told the wife I wanted to do ppf on the whole truck and she told me to fuck right off with that due to price so I only did the front.

a year later and now my wife sees a matte finish paint job(or Xpel stealth) and says I like that matte color.

So not only does she like it, but potentially it would have saved the paint too
