Need a little advice… Received my Rivian RS1 last week, but have had multiple issues since receiving it. I’m still within the return window and am strongly considering returning it (though it pains me!). Want to know how other RS1’s have held up for those that have had it longer, as my concern is that this will continue to happen or get worse. For a car that cost $100k it’s alarming that I’m having so many issues at the start AND they are saying their earliest appointment is DECEMBER 14th, which is insane to me.

Here are my problems so far:

- Main issue: Car is loud when AC runs and makes the petals vibrate. I have another electric car and understand that the AC can be loud in electric vehicles, however, this is so loud it causes the hood and my pedals to vibrate while driving.

- Rear seat handle for reclining the seat came off first try. Was not screwed in or is missing a screw. Poor assembly.

- Rear window lining is off. Seems like poor assembly.

- Rear headrest is broken. Tried to adjust it and the bottom base where it connects came off showing the inside or the seat cushion.

- Bluetooth needs to reconnect via my phone settings every time I get in the car. Is this normal? I feel like it should automatically connect.

- The latest this morning is that the front window wiper fluid won’t spray. The back spray does work, so I know it has fluid, but the front does not.

TBH it pains me to write all of this, because I was very excited about the car, but with so many problems, after only four days, makes me very concerned about how the car will hold up in the long run. Any advice and thoughts would be helpful. Thank you!

Aside from the AC, those all sound like simple 1 visit to the SC to fix.

If you were having suspension issues, battery issues, alignment issues then I’d be more inclined to return because those seem to be the types that take multiple visits and multiple days for them to resolve.

AC specifically, I know that’s common (search) and I don’t think even swapping VINs would get rid of that.

Rivian is a young company. I’ve had 4 SC visits and a 5th coming up in a few weeks to fix stuff.

I agree with all this.

Also, I'm teasing about getting the name of the car wrong, but how does one spend nearly $100k and not know what car they are buying?

Return the vehicle.
Cannot continue to make excuses for Rivian. Deliver properly finished vehicles to everyone.

Rivian is aware of the AC issue and are working on solutions (have tried a software solution that was hit or miss for most).

While I understand it's frustrating to deal with, all the other items mentioned are minor and will be taken care of relatively easily. Rivian is a new company still getting better at build quality coming out of the factory and service.

Each person has to decide for themselves if they aren't up for that "adventure" with a new company and their growing pains. I can only speak for myself, but I picked up my R1T in June and I still have not found any issues with it. I do know that it likely won't be as reliable as the Tacoma it replaced, but I am fine with that. It's worth it.

all minor, I would keep.
I agree it's not expected quality for $100K but I knew what I signed up for when I purchased a SU(E)V from a company who never mass produced vehicles before. And the overall quality is still damn good and I'm happy.

(I still sometimes pinch myself when I see my R1S in my garage)

Most of these complaints don't even register for me as issues TBH. If they bother you then you might not want a Rivian or any vehicle. I guess personally I just accept that no vehicle is going to be perfect and I have a certain amount of tolerance for non ideal situations.

It seems you are near a service center. That means you are already better off than many of us.

This may sound weird to you. But honestly, these are all minor issues. $100k is a lot of money but there are cars that cost multiples of that that have worse probs.

You need to embrace the fact that Rivian is still a very new brand. It takes time get to where these probs will start to be non existent or get to where its minimal. We were one of the early adopters of that other EV brand that starts with a "T" and I can write a book on several issues that we had in the early years of production. Bottom line, these are easy probs that should be able to get resolved in one service visit. or 2, or 3.

I know the car I’m buying. It was a simple misspell ??

I understand that Rivian is new and I’m fine with most of this being a simple visit to the service dept, but it’s been one thing after the next. I haven’t had a day where I haven’t had to put in a service ticket. It’s just a bummer and I’m curious long term how the car has been holding up for others?

Biggest concern is the AC vibrating the petals. It’s distracting while driving and that is a huge issue for me.
