Should you tip your PPF installer?

R1S is currently in a shop that is doing full PPF, ceramic coating and window tint. Total cost comes out to about $7k. There is a sign in their office saying "tipping of installers is appreciated."

This is fairly large organization with a bunch of employees. I have no idea which of them actually worked on my car.

Is it customary to tip a shop for this type of work? If so, what would be an appropriate amount?

PPF is about 10% the cost of the vehicle...plus tip? One more reason to skip PPF.

I think the tipping is getting out of hand. You are paying top dollar, because you expect excellent work to be done. So if they already do excellent work, what is the extra you are tipping for? I mean, I can pour my own black drip coffee.

In my opinion absolutely no tip. You just dropped 7K. If the company is large and has great installers they should pay them accordingly with no need for tipping. Next we will be tipping the guy behind the counter at the self serve gas station for allowing us to pump our own gas or tipping the DC charger for allowing you to charge.Tipping is out of control.

I agree tipping is out of hand. If someone provides personal service i tip. My barber and servers at restaurants. We also tip our dog groomer and uber driver when we use it. Otherwise we don't tip.

I enjoyed being in Italy where it almost doesn't exist...and we still tipped often because we're silly Americans.

Honestly, I'm skipping PPF as well. Just not worth it for a car I'll keep for the warranty duration. I am doing a full paint correction and ceramic though.

We're in the final 2 months of a new home build...next thing you know, we'll have an additional line for a tip on that as well....

I do because I’ve carried multiple vehicles to the same place and installer. They always take care of me so I take care of them. They will fix or replace any film that starts peeling back or has damage without charging me again.

How much do you tip? Do you normally do a fixed amount or a percentage of the service provided?

Repeat business is how I show appreciation. For something like PPF, you are pretty much paying for perfection but it does take some time for minor bubbles to disappear and you may not notice issues right away so hard to tell if it's perfect on delivery day.
