Should you tip your PPF installer?

It’s not “expected and customary” to tip a hard goods salesperson or dentist. My dentist is a personal friend and would be professionally appalled at the idea of accepting a tip from a patient. My wife (an MD) says the same, and it is also a violation of her employment contract.

I tipped my mechanic recently when he did the initial inspection of my Rivian when I drove up to make an appointment, and he said “let’s do it right away.” Not “expected and customary” tip but he provided a SERVICE above and beyond any expectation.

That reply was meant to be sarcastic. I guess thats where tipping culture has gone, can no longer tell if its a joke.

Hmm, great idea I say tip your PPF installer 40%. It is a very labor intensive job for sure...Since I installed it myself, I will be extra generous and tip myself 50%

I agree tipping is out of hand. If someone provides personal service i tip. My barber and servers at restaurants. We also tip our dog groomer and uber driver when we use it. Otherwise we don't tip.

WTF? No. The PPF company needs to pay installers better if they think they need tips.

Its discretionary. If your making special requests above any beyond a standard install they you should probably tip if they aren't charging extra. Otherwise you should not be expected to tip. There is tipping etiquette posted on the internet because of all this excessive requests for tips.

I tipped a guy recently who tinted my wife's R1S. He told me it would be $250 but when he gave me the bill it was $224. I tipped him $26 bucks because they did a good job and i had already agreed to $250...But i shouldn't have been expected to tip in this situation.

If someone goes above and beyond you probably should.... but im talking about the expectation... and feeling guilty for not tipping here.

Uber drivers and groomers do exactly what they’re paid to do—just as the PPF guy. I don’t see the need to tip them in the same way as you explain then.

Nobody says you have to tip anyone. What im saying is its up to you if you want to tip. I tip my barber because he has razor blades and i want to stay on his good side ?. I also tip uber if they drive well... i want the good drivers to keep doing it.

The tipping has gone completely out of control. For example I tip for pizza if getting a delivery but i don't tip if im going in to pickup.

Exactly, I didn’t take it as sarcasm…. because it has gotten so out of hand, anything seems possible.

More and more retail Point Of Sale systems are prompting for tips automatically at checkout. Three people prepared a production line sub sandwich for me at Jersey Mikes in 90 seconds, and it prompted me to leave a 20% tip. IMO that’s an insult to hard working servers who spend much more one on one time and effort in a full service restaurant.

Because my groomer or Uber doesn't charge me 7K for service.

Most shops pay PPF installers hourly plus commission and do not expect tips on high dollar tickets. Our shop offers many lower dollar ticket services and those services quite often get tipped. There should be an option at check out to pass on the tipping altogether and my employees make sure to tell the customer it is completely optional.

That is a work of an art! You don’t need tip; just anwesome appreciation. If you accept tip, then it brings down the value way down.
