Hey! So I updated my iphone to iOS 17 two days ago, I've always had perfect experiences with proximity unlock via phone, but now I have to unlock my phone, sometimes even open the app before it unlocks. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Same issue for awhile. I think it’s a ploy to keep the app opened all the time.

I’ve had this issue with every single iPhone I’ve ever owned. I have to wake the phone before it will unlock, for both Tesla and Rivian.

That's always been the case and it's not a "ploy" it's an iOS multitasking API requirement.

As to the OP, I have noticed worse performance lately but I also got a new phone with iOS 17, so I don't know if the issue is iOS 17 or iPhone 15.

Recently turned PaaK back on and have iOS 17. Seems to work fine for me. My biggest gripe remains unlocking/waking the vehicle from too far away (in my house/office) and not locking until I'm further away than I'd like.

My experience has been pretty consistent with iOS16 and iOS17, I even switched to the new iPhone 15 pro and it works the same as the 14 pro.. that is, not perfect, sometimes it takes a few seconds when I get to the truck for it to recognize im there and unlock.

That's been my experience as well. My Rivian often won't unlock with my iPhone 15 Pro Max until I unlock the phone.

PAAK works pretty well with my iPhone 15 Pro Max with the R1S as well as Lucid Air, so well in fact that I denied BT access to both apps. Each time I went into the garage, both cars would wake up. If I wanted to drive my R1S, the mirrors from both vehicles would open forcing me to squeeze by. I use my fobs so not a real issue, but good to have PAAK (and key cards) as backups.

iPhone 15 Pro performance has been so bad, I've reverted to carrying the key fob. iPhone 14 Pro performance was okay, not great, but better than I've seen since moving to the 15 Pro. Can't say if it relates to iOS 17 though, as I'd been running iOS 17 Beta for a few months on the 14 Pro and it was much better (low bar) than final release iOS 17 on the 15 Pro.

Funny, PAAK worked well for me on my 15 Pro Max and wasn't too sensitive to trigger vehicle unlock in my office above my garage. When I walked into the garage both the R1S and Lucid Air would wake up and unlock in under 10 seconds. Maybe unpair, delete and reload the Rivian app?? As I mentioned, I had to disable BT access for both apps as it was a PITA squeezing between the mirrors with both vehicles auto-unlocking. Would be good to prevent mirror unfold only when a door is opened.

I’m using IOS 17.03 on iPhone 14 Pro Max and it is working fine, same as it was on the previous version of IOS.

I’ve personally experienced worse performance after upgrading to the 15 Pro/iOS 17. I’ve always had positive PaaK experience with iPhones but since upgrading unlocking is slower and even when I unlock and get inside I end up not being able to “start” my R1T unless I take my phone out and wake the screen.

Feel like iOS 16 on iPhone 14 Pro had better performance than iOS 17 on iPhone 14 Pro. Currently at 17.0.2, will see if 17.0.3 changes anything.

No, you don't have to wake the iPhone to lock/unlock Tesla. I've had my Tesla for 6 years and not even once it had issue. As long as the phone is in your pocket the lock/unlock feature works perfectly.

For you and most everybody else, yes. For me, never. Tesla service techs were able to reproduce the issue, but only with my (brand new) phone. I think there’s a config setting gone wrong, or I’m paired with to too many Bluetooth devices already. I’ve reset most settings to no avail. Maybe there’s a ghost in my neighborhood.

In the Tesla case it appeared that the early Model 3 antenna was weak, and if my phone was in my back pocket, my (obviously massive) body was enough to block the signal. Even in my front pocket it was iffy, though, depending on how I approached the car. Another wrinkle is that I walk faster than most people, so the car doesn’t have enough time to react.
