In a perfect world, EA wouldn't be a complete shit show and RAN wouldn't be needed. Yet, here we are.
Even if EA was perfect RAN would still be needed. So would EVGo, ChargePoint, etc. there just aren’t enough chargers even if all were working 100%.

Do we know anything about the planned San Bernardino RAN at Inland Center? PlugShare shows 8 stalls. Any pull-through spots?

Nothing, but Spokane is open now!
My son lives in Shoreline. That's really close to the mall there in Lynnwood. I bet Sound Transit will be completed to his nearest stop before that RAN station is operational.

I know that historically Tesla prioritized areas with high percentage of Tesla for their SC locations. Safe to assume that Rivian does the same, especially at the rate at which they're burning cash
At least in CA, it seems half of the RAN locations are in the middle of nowhere and many others in semi-dense areas.

Breezewood PA interesting info:
I planned a Colorado to Philly trip on the Android Rivian app using my actual departure date of Oct 30. The app routing includes a charging stop at the not yet open RAN station in Breezewood PA.
I wonder if this means the station opening is imminent.

*Edit: App is showing Breezewood open and in use. If anyone uses this, please make an initial entry in PlugShare.

Man, wish there was one in Asheville. Were they planning one?

Not a fan of the Sam’s location there. Nothing to do but sit and read.
I agree, I am sitting in Asheville right now. Have to drive to Blowing Rock for a charge but all 6 are down right now! ?‍♂

Uhoh! What’s the story with THAT?! I’ll be in Boone later this fall. Thankfully the AirBnB I’ve rented has a J1772 charger, but I’d like the RAN as a backup.

It has to compete with Astoria as being the slowest RAN opening of them all.

Astoria even had news articles about Rivian opening a RAN there.

I hope it's open - my wife is taking our R1S from Lancaster to Pittsburgh today (235 miles) and is planning to stop in Breezewood in a couple hours to charge for 20-30 minutes. I'll update PlugShare when she does (or doesn't). The app "required" her to stop there for 33 minutes.

I really need to adjust my thinking about range with the Rivian. We charged her to 100% last night to be ready for my wife's trip and it showed a range of 278 miles (we have the 20" ATs) when I unplugged her this morning. Here's the adjustment: It's NOT 278 miles because you don't want to go below 20% if you can avoid it, right? 20% of my range is 56 miles, so my theoretical range is 222 miles. It's an easy number to remember, but I had told my wife that she had plenty of juice to get to do the 235 miles to Pittsburgh and get to an L3 charger at Target on Penn Ave. We haven't had it long enough (less than two months and almost all of that has been local driving) for her to be comfortable not following the Rivian guidelines.

While I wouldn't make it a daily habit to go below 20% I do it on long trips and have been down around 5% upon arriving at home or DCFC. I also would not let the vehicle sit at below 20% or above 80% for long periods of time. You paid for the battery you should be able to use most/all of it when needed without issue.

Last night (Oct 12) the first post on PlugShare appeared showing this station is open and the poster was successfully charging.

In general, I would charge to 100% as reasonably close to when I'm leaving using delayed charging or whatever works. Leaving batteries at 100% for a longer time is harder on them. Not critical but if convenient.

There is no problem going below 20% in modern EVs. You can easily go to 5% as long as you are going to charge once you get down that low.

The biggest key if you/she is concerned about running low is just to slow down 5+ mph at a time from your normal driving. Your consumption will drop and your efficiency will rise.

Our EV gets about that same number of max miles at this point and we road trip a lot doing the above.
