We now have had two reports now of "service" (local or central?) saying this is not a bug. And no reports to the contrary. Where is Tony when you need him? Marketing? Easing the flow between the customer and Rivian?

Why should anyone believe that communication from corporate to "service" has improved so much that they are now communicating a consistent message?

And about totally new functionality delivered 24 hours before?

This is surely a bug.........

So All Terrain Package gets "Soft Sand"? Cool, I didn't know that. That's what mine will be when it gets here in a month. Though I have no idea when I would ever use "soft sand" in Colorado. I don't think they let you drive in Sand Dunes NP!

While everyone’s griping about software differentiation someone forgot to mention the inevitable.

We will all be differentiated over time with hardware/software refreshes. Don’t expect to get the latest software stack in a few years that the latest models are given. Hardware changes will necessitate that, marketers will demand it.

I can understand how some will be bummed it's not included in the dual motor, but I don't understand the outright anger and feeling that Rivian wronged them (except for that screenshot saying 'everyone' gets it). We should continue to expect some software feature differences between the two. I don't understand why this was a shock to any.

Maybe I'm not surprised just because of coming from Tesla. The base model 3's used to have fog lights - but the software was disabled. Even the interior accent lights were there but disabled by software along with the rear heated seats. They did this to find ways to add value differences between the trims since the interior/exteriors are exactly the same. I thought it was pretty petty to turn off features, especially for hardware that is already in the car - but I get it.

So I'm not surprised at all that we see something similar with Rivian - and I expect to continue to see more in the future.

In response to those saying future software features were not promised, I'd push back on that some by saying it is something they (Rivian) have been saying is an advantage...ability to add and improve things with software.

How quickly did we forget all of the interviews RJ and his staff did after last month's upgrade and one of their first talking points was (loosely summarized) "We will continue to add and improve via software."

Also, there is nothing that I am aware of (though I have the Quad and love the gauges) that the other powertrains would NOT get it. So, based on the press release and the expectation Rivian has set with us continuing to get software improvements and additions, we can be disappointed that other powertrains were left out.

If they provided a roadmap software improvements and additions that delineates between powertrain models BEFORE hand, then some of this ire could be mitigated.

I just went out and checked my dual motor R1T with All Terrain upgrade. I have 4 drive modes (All Purpose, Off-Road, Snow, Soft Sand). I have the gauge display.

For folks not seeing gauges, it may be a bug with the standard package with no all terrain upgrade.

Exactly this, my Tesla still gets updates but not all feature updates are compatible with my vehicle.

Here to provide a glimmer of (hopefully not false) hope:

I spoke to a Customer Engagement specialist just now, who was unaware of the disparity. So she transferred me to a support tech.

The support tech had me do a soft & hard reset. Neither fixed the issue.

She then opened a ticket to their Updates team. It was at this point that I explained that others online corroborate that the features only seem to be missing on the baseline DM vehicles (All Terrain Package, Performance, and QM all have it, but baseline DM does not). She then said that this was the first she's heard of the disparity also, and that she was not given any documented guidance explaining that the disparity was intended.

So in her opinion it's unintended behavior. And she included in the ticket that supposedly all baseline DM are missing the feature.

My hopium is strong right now.

I just got a call back from the support rep, and was told that the Updates team told her that the disparity was intended. ?

I was also told to call our Guides to lodge a formal complaint.

Maybe having heated seats in the rear will turn into a $99/mo package. Or for $199/30 days you can get performance gauges. Or for $299/mo you can unlock the performance of the dual motor.

*Rivian please do not take these as serious suggestions*

I may be misunderstanding what you wrote but all current R1Ts are the adventure package. Even the non-performance dual motors.

No soft-sand mode, no sport mode, probably not as important to have the temperature information on those vehicles. Though I'd still expect to get the compass, trip meter, etc.

I would disagree. You still have tow mode which is just as important to know if you’re doing something that is out of norm. I’m thinking mostly about motor/ battery temps towing up long grades or using regen going down grade. That’s why I was personally interested in it. I tow a boat on the regular with mine.
