Rivian Adventure Network Update - Billing to begin Early November

Got to use one charger on a trip over Labor Day. Sucks they are going to start charging now but I get it. They also don’t have any RAN near me, so I couldn’t take advantage of it while free.

I don't so much care about paying, that's fine. Wish they would alot 1000kwh of charging on ran to each new rivian.

I'm really concerned that we will be seeing a subscription soon for the LTE. I do wish we were able to put our own sim card in or wifi tether while driving though. I'm not much a fan of paying for a cellular connection for my car.

Since Mar ‘22 delivery I’ve got a grand total of 1 RAN session at an adventure destination that’s an REI in Concord, NC. ? That being said, really could have used the one in Blowing Rock, NC during a recent trip but whole site was on a long duration outage. Rolled into an EA in Asheville with about 8 miles left by truck’s estimate.

Speaking of free charging, with all the complaining about EA (including some from me) I want to say that a quarter of my charges at various locations have been complimentary. Not sure if it’s promotion, sorry for not being what it should be or something else.

Day to day, I charge at home with solar assist and it’s pretty cheap per kWh solar (which of course had its own costs) or from grid.

Kind of a follow on to what others have said, I thought free or reduced price charging was going to be part of the subscription but maybe they need to stop the RAN bleeding before they’re ready to pull the trigger on that. Not a charging infra expert but also thought charging companies needed to be available to all to be subsidy eligible. If so, this is a precursor to opening the network, I‘d think.

19kwh of solar with no overproduction restrictions. Also just switched to a hybrid hot water tank so I'm adding another 5kw in the spring to my pergola because, you know, the rest of you jamokes don't seem to care about the environment enough.

Had a hunch that you had a solar system. As someone noted, nothing is actually free. Solar is great, but comes at a cost too, unless you're in an area where the incentives completely offset the costs of the solar system? Unfortunately, those incentives keep going down and adding solar is getting more and more expensive.

I don't remember seeing anything about a year of free charging when I purchased my truck.

Solar is great, but comes at a cost too, unless you're in an area where the incentives completely offset the costs of the solar system? Unfortunately, those incentives keep going down and adding solar is getting more and more expensive.

As far as I know, most areas where incentives have gone down just means your ROI is longer. But only you as in individual can decide what ROI is worth it to you.

A lot of people get hung up on the fixed cost vs ongoing cost math.

This is completely irrelevant for most customers that finance a solar system for less than the cost of the utility bill they’re replacing. Although I don’t know if our new interest rate environment has changed this math substantially.

If you can get a financed system for less than the cost of your utility bill, why wouldn’t you get solar?

I’m personally a fan of fronting the cost, but realize that’s not how most people manage their finances.

To each their own, but also samsies. I'd rather just write the check up front and save the financing costs.

Personally, it's more than just the money. With the batteries, it means I can truly maintain my coffee maker during an outage of any length. The piece of mind added to the environmental "feel goods" makes it not all about money. I know for sure that a lot of people don't register those as benefits since they lack specific dollar amounts.

And just like EVs, the fact of your going solar is going to encourage others to do the same. It's a cascading benefit of sorts.

That says free during Rivian’s first year of deliveries. Not free for a year after your delivery

Just like Tesla, it will be a loss leader until they reach a very high volume of delivered cars. To help recoup costs, they will open up their network to other brands, albeit at an upcharge like Tesla.

Latest industry survey shows solar installation costs dropped 50 cents per kw between 2022 and 2023. Costs for panels are 90% lower than 10 years ago. There has never been a better time to go solar.

I read this announcement during my first time using a RAN ?. I am happy I got to use it at least a few times! I will say the plug and play “just works” status of the RAN was pretty nice. Plus the locations (395) for me are dialed.
Will be curious what the pricing looks like, and if it will still be rivian only

If i ever see one I'll stop in to charge to support them. I guess we are not "Adventurous" enough in New England to rate any chargers... yet. I see two proposed locations - the closest is 165 miles away in Holyoke MA.
