Getting my R1T next week and the biggest hesitation I have with the truck is this. Been enjoying this capability in my 2016 "layman's" truck for some time now. The fact that this "luxury" truck doesn't have it is ridiculous. Adventure truck my ass. Adventures in my world involve music and no internet/ phone connection!
Just put them on your phone and play over bluetooth. Don't need internet or cell connection.

Give your ears a few more years to age and it will sound just fine over Bluetooth. ?
I'm nigh on being 50 and stood way to close to the speakers at more concerts than I can count in my life. My most used phrase these days is "what was that?" (or some variation of). So I get what your saying. But BT music sounds noticeably bad to a USB connection even with MP3.

The whole point of this thread is why hasn't Rivian put a media player in? I know nothing of SW development, but this feature has been around for more than a decade at this point and can't be terribly difficult to implement. They say it's "on the roadmap". So DO IT already. The original poster assumed the vehicle had this capability because EVERY new car has this capability these days. An $80k+ vehicle should have this capability. It's a little ridiculous.

I've had my Rivian since May and I have yet to set up my MP3 library I've been building for the last 15 years. I don't see a regular USB port anywhere. Can you get a USB-C to regular USB converter of some type and plug that into the console so I can listen to my music? I've been doing this for my last 5 vehicles and it was easy, but my Rivian is sooooooo high tech it makes this difficult. Any help would be much appreciated.

On a side note I really wish they would have included standard USB plugs and a 12V outlet somewhere on the the inside of the vehicle. Am I missing something?
USB adapters can work for Gear Guard with old thumb drives. https://www.rivianforums.com/forum/threads/downloading-gearguard-video-to-usb-c.4505/post-240094

You have to memorize the lyrics and sing them all to yourself.
Im’ma gonna let you ride with me so you can hear just how good my singin’ is.
They stopped waterboarding at Guantanamo after hearing my singin’. Now they just play an 8–track of my screeching to Taylor Swift.

My voice is basically a war crime.

Side question, where do I find a bluetooth 8-track player? Asking for a friend.

Did Rivian Corporate actually say that or was that a line from a clueless Guide?

I support the OP. I encourage everyone to sign the petition.

For a vehicle built in 2023 to not have USB Audio is mind boggling. In my opinion they have done this purposely. Rivian must be getting kick-back's for every person that signs up for one of the on-board services. Remember how HP PC's they forced you to use AOL.

We all know the sound system is capable of USB playback. One of these days a lawyer will find a way to force Rivian to make the change.

I have a lot of MP3 music and lectures that the services don't offer. I don't want to use my bluetooth phone either. Half the time I have to monkey with the phone which takes my eyes off the road. This is unsafe.

....and it sounds like poo.
That's not the bluetooth's fault, the trucks sound system is extremely mediocre, whether you had lossless audio source or not, it's not going to sound even halfway decent with the current speaker system in the truck.

BT is not bad. It certainly sounds better than my previous vehicle's direct connection, as well as my recent Service loaner. However, I made the mistake of trying out the FM station section in my Rivian and immediately noticed a marked improvement. And that was for terrestrial radio!

I wholeheartedly agree with Rivian needing to implement 2010's USB playback technology, as BT requires more user intervention (doesn't always auto-play, and I have to turn on the outlet to power my device). Plus, apps do that annoying thing where it tries to think for you and add songs "you might like" which are generally way way off (trip hop during a yacht rock set, anyone?). Finally, in my case, I'm a retired club DJ who still records sets for personal use, which will always be 100% superior to any streaming app algorithm.
