R1T,
It's ridiculous for this kind of vandalism to occur but unfortunately not surprising that it happened in downtown Portland (aka Gotham). The once cool safe city is now completely disgusting. I didn't realize how bad it was until I visited Chicago this past summer and was shocked how much cleaner and safer their downtown and areas north along Lake Michigan & Wrigley Field were than anywhere in Portland. As a native Oregonian it makes me sick we let this happen.
Since they already have a very nice service center in Tualatin, I would recommend Rivian do like other businesses and abandon downtown Portland and re-locate that facility to Central Oregon where there appears to be more R1's than anywhere else in the state (per capita, anyway).

As a 25-year Portland resident, I don't really see it as a neighborhood issue per se. We have a fairly small group of fairly angry and/or substance-influenced people for whom vandalizing $80,00 - $100,000 vehicles would seem fun and/or reasonable. It was just silly of Rivian to leave vehicles in an unfenced area like that, regardless of where in the city it is; I wondered about it from the get go. (For the record, I live about a mile-and-a-half from the Service Center.)

And, while it could have been someone from a nearby camp, I don't assume that's the case; I'll leave that to others.
Yeah given the holiday I'd say a good chance some kids out doing Hijinx. Or maybe some kids got angry after I ran out of candy at 7:20 and decided to find my truck for the trick ?‍♂

I have a love/hate relationship with Portland.

For a year I had a crashpad in PDX where I split the rent with someone who actually lived there.

In that year:

Someone crashed into my Camper Van that I legally street parked, and they took off. They didn't care to see if anyone was sleeping in it. Thankfully I wasn't and the entire thing was caught by the apartment security camera. It wasn't angled right to get the license plate numbers.

My Mountain Bike got stolen from the apartments bike locker room despite it being a locked room, and the bike was locked up. I was really irked because I had just gotten a reflector with an hidden airtag section in it, but I hadn't had a chance to put it on the bike.

The roof deck of the apartment had a change in policy which resulted in access being locked really early. So no dinners on the roof. This was due to inconsiderate jerks.

These examples are different demographics of a-holes ruining PDX.

Even if Rivian gave me a guarantee that they'd fix my tock (my most hated issue with my R1T) I'd give pause if they told me PDX would be the service center. :p

Yeah, I don't understand why Rivian put it there when not even REI can do business in downtown Portland.

What became of Tualatin? It's my understanding that service is no longer done there. The Rivian website only lists the Portland location. Maybe Van only service?

I liked the Tualatin location because there wasn't too much traffic around the service center. It was easy to demonstrate some issue with the vehicle.

This is very different than the Bellevue SC where you just get trapped in traffic. Plus the service center is overfilled with deliveries and with the Rivian Cargo Van service.

I can confirm they are still doing service at Tualatin but I think it was never intended to be a full service center. Both @LivingInKaos and @av8or also reported stops/drop offs there this week.

I was actually there today. They are still there and it is planned to be permanent. They currently can only do things that do not require a lift at that location. They are still working on a couple permits in order to become a full service.... Those darn permits bite them everywhere they go....

When they talk about keeping vehicles inside, this actually gives some hope that they are going to work at tightening their schedule between drop off and when they are being worked on. Portland has been pretty good compared to many other places I've heard but if they can get away from having 20-30+ vehicles just sitting for days on end it would lessen the storage load. They've been doing this long enough now that they should be able to streamline a bit. And yes, I understand the stop and wait aspect when dealing with parts. Also, might be surprised how many vehicles they can squeeze in there. Just makes it a pain every morning/evening. I'm also sure they are just talking service in vehicles, not delivery stock, but then, Rivian has been known to surprise me :p

Make sure they seal your rear window correctly. I had to have mine replaced three different times because they did not let the adhesive cure long enough. Each time it would leak / drain water into my gear tunnel. Just spray it down with a hose really well before you go to check. Also - every time I have had my vehicle in service, I asked them to leave it in the service bay at night and they were always happy to.

I’m dropping my R1T at Tualatin on Friday. I’ll have to ask how they are planning to resolve the leak from my front drive motors without using a lift!

They used to have a lift, I know they can’t do alignments there but they had done some pretty significant repairs on my truck last time I had it in there.

Rivian R1T R1S Vandalism at Portland SC 1000004954

I'm surprised the Chicago SC hasn't had this happen. It is in a not nice area.

I'm not really sure. That's just what Val had mentioned the previous time I was there. I know they can't do half shaft work there.

Does Portland not have a night security guard walking around? My gear guard videos from Bellevue showed him walking by every night.

I’m not sure about the security but definitely interested to see what my gear guard caught if anything.
