Rubbing issues with EV1 R800 wheels

Yeah, my limited understanding is that by going up to 9” from 8.5 that pushes the edge out 12.7 mm, since we want about 5.7” backspacing, this means the offset needs to be 5.7” - 4.5” (1.2 X 25.4mm), which amounts to 30mm offset.

sounds like running oversized tires means you have to pay close attention to rim dimensions.

8.5” wide rims are pretty unusual. I’m guessing there is an important reason why Rivian chose that size, so best to get 20 X 8.5” if you can…

maybe we get someone with the 2363Ram rim to take careful measurements…

Offset is off the centerline, so yes the rim itself will sit out further, but it won’t really change the tire position (since the tire is centered in the rim). Now the wider rim will stretch the tire a little differently, but I’m not certain how much that’ll affect any rubbing on this particular tire. It is plausible that bulging it out the extra 1/4” would change the geometry of the tire slightly.

Guilty! The company I work for has a brand “Falcon” so I’m so used to typing that one. Whoops!

Those tires are around 1.3 inches larger outer diameter than the 22s. It’s possible the rubbing is due to the software configured for the 22” wheel and tire combo.

I’m coming from 22s and about to install aftermarket 20s this week. Choosing the Cooper Discoverer AT3 in 275/60 which is the same outer diameter as the 22s. No need to change the software and hopefully gives the least chance of rubbing.

I have the R800 wheels with 275/65/20 Falken Wildpeak AT3W tires and am experiencing pretty aggressive rubbing. Even in standard height if I hit a dip in the highway I will hear a slight rub. If pulling out of driveway or parking spot while still in kneel mode, it’s really noticeable.

now I did upgrade in size because my stock was the 22s, and I didn’t have anything recalibrated. But I’ve yet to hear about the recalibration changing anything in suspension settings. Plus, if I’m still rubbing on n standard height I doubt that’s my issue.

I contacted EV Sportline and they weren’t much help. They weren’t sure if calibration would help, but they said they’ve installed the exact whee/tire combo I have on an R1T with zero rubbing issues. I’m starting to think my truck may be “special” but I can’t seem to figure out the exact rubbing spot(s) yet. I need to dig in more. I really don’t want to downgrade in tire size nor do want to change wheels, but may have to if I can’t figure this out and/or clear the rubbing interference.

anyone having this issue with these wheels or similar aftermarket wheels? Offset is slightly more than stock, I know, but these were made to work on Rivian’s and EV1 offers them with the same tire I have.

I run aftermarket set as well, 275/65/20 LT Scorpion AT plus (34.1 diameter) on 20X9 +18 wheels - way different set up from yours and on an R1S.

My config was 21 road tires and I have not ask Rivian to change my config to 20 inch with 34.1 diameter tires.

Today, I had rubbing when going 50 mph downhill over a hump at the intersection while on all purpose, standard height, soft ride. Otherwise, no rubbing even while on kneel mode in and out of my inclined driveway.

wow yeah that’s a way more aggressive offset than I have and I definitely have more rubbing issues. Wondering if I’m actually running more on the inside, and perhaps the more aggressive offset is actually better?

That’s why I asked EV1 about the tire size and calibration, though. My understanding is recalibration only is needed for speedometer calibration, which is why they say to use 60 series if you had 22s (should be same for 21s as both are about 33” tire size).

If in fact suspension calibration does change with 20” option, then I should get that done and see if that helps, but I don’t see the point in paying for that if all it does is recalibrate the speedometer, which in my case is actually now dead on accurate AFTER the switch to the larger tire! ? Also, since I get rubbing even on standard height, it doesn’t make sense that any change in settings would completely eliminate my issues.

Not sure why your truck should be rubbing. I have the same wheel and I have an even bigger tire than you, 285/60/20! No rubbing whatsoever and I drive in sport mode at the lowest setting.
Have you tried driving at the lowest setting? I can't imagine that it would make a difference, but worth a try?
