I think it's basically, here is what the car could get at 25-35mph where drag isn't really a thing, but no one drives that slowly so we need to give them a realistic number. Oversimplifying, but maybe it's adjusted to 55-65mph to arrive at the EPA number.
That would explain the good EPA test result's on the 20" wheels at the slower speeds.

Come come now. If we can't agree to disagree and have a lively debate, you'll just be in an echo chamber with your two Rivians.
This isn’t the first time. Your attitude here is always one of cynicism, “someone out there is always trying to deceive you”, generally unproductive word choices. Just gets real tiresome.

That is the difference between DM and QM. When comparing DM to DM, those losses are the same, right?
It should be, yes. But maybe the max is running two Hi efficiency inverters instead of the one in the DM large.

Take care. Some days, I wish this site had a proper block function, not just ignore
Not sure what you want out of the ignore feature. If you ignore a user specifically you won't see any posts, replies or threads from that user. It's worked quite well for me though I reserve it for people that are clearly trolling or resorting to insults.

Why? It's the EPA rating, not "I'm driving at 80 mph at -35°" rating
Yes, I understand that. But it is impossible to improve efficiency that much by just putting in a bigger capacity battery. They had to change something else. What did they change in addition to the battery?

As far as we know, nothing. It is the same vehicle as the dual motor versions; therefore, efficiency between them should be the same. And the increase in range should be solely due to the increase in battery capacity.

The increase in range over the Large pack requires a 148 kWh battery, but they only increased the capacity to 142 kWh. So how did they do it? Answer: they did what Tesla does.

That is fine if they tested all their vehicles that way. But until the Max Pack, their EPA range estimates were more realistic compared with what Tesla reports. Changing the EPA test procedure with one model seems deceitful, especially when they did it to meet a range promise they have been making for years.

Ignore still shows their posts here, and they still show up on the reaction lists.

And importantly, ignore doesn’t mean that the ignored users won’t see your posts—this would be a true block feature, where a blocked user wouldn’t ever know you exist on the site

That hasn't been my experience. It is true they can still see your posts but otherwise I am not sure your first statement is correct.

Of what? My max pack? I will since higher capacity cells are known to degrade faster.
In all honesty… is there any factual evidence of how significant this “faster degradation” would be? Ie how much range/capacity is one losing over the first 5 years of max pack versus large pack?

Has anybody confirmed that Rivian did not plop two high efficiency inverters into the max, where they are only using one in the DM large? Little things add up over a full range test...

Ah, it’s my error. Apparently, this checkbox in my settings wasn’t checked. Corrected now, thanks for the heads up.

I hope they did something else besides just changed the battery. I want to believe the Max really is that much more efficient. Maybe Munro will do a tear down.

According to what I see in those documents the usable is 10-11 kwh difference between Large and Max pack. Again I don't typically read these documents, but it looks like the watt hours converted to kwh show the difference. Not sure how they are getting more out of it unless there is different tuning for max pack. Increased cell energy density is not going to make the truck more efficient....it just allows you to extract and put in more electrons.
The Large Pack has 127-128 kWh usable.
The Max Pack has 141-142 kWh usable.

So the increase in capacity is around 14 kWh.

I live/drive a lot in NYC with city traffic rarely going over 25mph and most of the time being 15-20min. A few parkways at 45mph maybe. Over the first two weeks of ownership (only about 200 miles thus far) my efficiency is 2.37 miles/kwh. That is on DM Performance Max Pack with AT 20” tires. When I charged to 100% the other day it showed me 372 miles of range.

2.37 x 142 = 337 miles.
