Currently using a Chargepoint Flex for Mercedes B250E. I plug it in and charger emails me when car stops drawing electricity. It won't ever start charging again unless unplugged and replugged in, but maybe that's the Mercedes (tesla powertrain) spec.

Will the Rivian R1T (coming this week) with the charge point start and stop and then start charging again as needed or do I schedule in Rivian App or in Chargepoint App?

I'm also taking advantage of Rivian hard wired Charger promotion, so same question on that charger to help me decide whether I should add another or switch out the Chargepoint. Will the Rivian start and stop charging and then start charging again using the Rivian charger as needed or do I schedule in Rivian App for the vehicle or charger?

I have the Chargepoint, and want to be helpful, but don't totally understand the question.

I set my timer using the Chargepoint app (9PM -7AM). The truck charges as needed at any point between those hours. If for some reason there's a charging error or whatever, I can restart the charge using the Rivian app by changing the percentage up a notch or two. The truck doesn't charge at all outside of my set hours.

Does that help?

So the Rivian will stop and start charging on it's own as needed without the need to unplug and plug in the charger cord?

My Mercedes doesn't do that (I need to unplug and replug to initiate charge again), although I think if I schedule it, the charger will reinitialize communication and start again....Testing today as we speak.

I too am confused a bit by your question, but the Chargepoint is a better charger for the money than the Rivian unit, which I would not recommend to anybody.

If buying a new one, I would recommend a Tesla unit.

For me, the answer is yes, unless it has some sort of error, which does occasionally happen. In those cases, I can use the Rivian app on my phone to restart the charging. I never have a need to physically unplug/replug the cord from the vehicle.

Great thank you! Charger cable I think is bad after three years of being strung outside with garage door on top of it. Customer service was good, but slow, so waiting for someone else to call and email with more testing. Spent 1 hour doing everything they asked.

L1 Charger works fine on B250E, but Rivian is coming Friday so bought an extra cable for ChargePoint.

Why does your charger stop charging and then need to start again? If the car is fully charged when it stops why do you need it to start again? Do you have an external power shutoff that cuts power to the charger?

So when the car (Mercedes B250E) is finished charging the Chargepoint turns off, as car isn't accepting more charge. It can sit for a few days and I want to make sure it's topped off before I use it but after I precondition in for the AM Drive (80 mile range), so I unplug it and plug it back in. It won't charge the last bit if the preconditioning and sitting around drop 10-15 miles off the range.

I wondered if Rivian would top itself off while plugged in automatically?

It will, assuming you have it set to charge 24/7. I have my. ChargePoint Home Flex set to charge between 9pm to 6am, and the Rivian set to 70% charge, so if it’s within those hours and below 70% it charges.

Awesome, 2023 tech versus 2014 tech is amazing. FWIW Chargepoint is replacing my charger under warranty, so good news all around.

We have a Tesla charger at home does anyone recommend just keeping it and using a converter vs getting a rivian wall charger installed

Not in my experience with the R1T I took delivery of in March 2023. I have it plugged in while I’m out of town and after initially charging and stopping, the phantom drain will take SOC well below the set point unless I wake the truck up with the app or I show up in person to wake up the truck.

1000% keep the Tesla charger. J1772 will be the minority plug within 5 years after NACS takes over. There aren't any benefits to use the Rivian charger compared to the Tesla.
